But saying that abortion will be abused is wildly ignorant. Not only is it very expensive, but an extremely uncomfortable experience for all involved. No one wants to have to have an abortion, but the repercussions of an unplanned pregnancy are myriad, and being able to avoid that circumstance is a better route for everyone involved. Especially a child born into a very difficult family/community environment. Aside from increased spending in welfare, foster homes, etc, etc, there is even a very compelling hypothesis that Roe v Wade contributed to the decline of crime in the mid-90s, 18-20 years after its decision (roughly the age that children who would've been born would've started committing crimes, but weren't and so didn't).

In theory, both weed and abortion are hotly debated issues. Similarly, both can be seen as economically positive: weed generates money, whereas in the end, abortion saves money. All in all, the regulated acceptance of each would seem a practical value to society.

The state of CO is openly opposing the Federal Government's ruling on weed, and the Federal Government could flex its muscles and shut down the operation through fines and such. The US Gov't cannot kill cartels that way, but they could crush the weed economy.

They did get fined over the Recession ordeal, but the US Government forced them into organizations that are now too large to fail without killing the global economy. So that is slightly different as well.

I also believe abortion should be legal for rape victims. And on legalizing weed, it's stupid it's not legalized. I'm not a big smoker myself but if it was legalized i can see a drastic reduction in the crime rate.

MinggWow okay. I read a statistic that less than 1% of abortions are rape. The only way abortion is justifiable to be is if it is totally necessary for the mothers health and rape. I'm surprised weed hasn't been legalized yet. I'm 99 percent sure it's going to be in the next decade. Maybe even in the next 5 years.

StoseNot really the hypocrisy of the right, just the public officials of the right. Most of the right tends to be conservative on monetary issues, and more liberal that those in office on social issues. But I think a 16 trillion dollar debt is more important that whether or not everyone is equal, so I'll vote for the party that has better monetary policy over the one that has better social policy

ScaredwhiteboyRaise taxes? Is that a joke? The top income bracket is already getting taxed at 40% nationally. Tack on to that state income taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, and a slew of other taxes, and you'll see that a good portion of American citizens (the hardest working portion of American citizens no less) are forced to give away more than half of their income. That's absurd. And don't even get me started on our ridiculous corporate taxes which are driving companies out of the country like the goddamn trail of tears. The last thing we need right now is to raise taxes.

If you want more money, let's start by trimming the fat in the budget. Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and Defense account for roughly 2/3 of the national budget. We need to slash every single one of these programs. Medicaid first. And no more free emergency care for people too poor to pay for it. If you have a heart attack, don't have insurance, and can't pay for it, you die. End of story. As soon as the medical system isn't burdened by having to provide care to the millions of people who don't pay a cent for it, healthcare costs will plummet. Once healthcare costs are down, we can eliminate Medicare. There is no reason we should be paying to keep people alive who are too old to contribute to society. If you want to live until you can't walk, hear, or see, pay for it on your dime.

Social Security is the biggest joke of them all. We ought to kill it immediately. Let's just give everybody who paid into it a check for every inflation-adjusted cent they paid in, and pretend it never happened.

And finally, Defense. We spend hundreds of billions of dollars under the guise of defending ourselves, yet the only time we've been attacked in the last 30 years we completely failed to defend it. We already have all the nukes we need to scare off any other country for a hundred years. What in the world are we spending all this money on?

dylholeI'm confident with my personal planning and budgeting where I'd be just fine if I had to pay more taxes, especially if it helped others. And I'm okay to do so, especially if I agree with a lot of the programs that is getting a share of my money. Our health system was/is broken. It isn't fixed, but I applaud our President for bucking the system and trying to fix it, and I think it's heading in the right direction. Sometimes you need to invest time and money in something to make it work. Republicans need to tweak the affordable care act, not repeal it. It could, and would, be a much better plan for most if both sides acted like adults and reached across the aisle a little more.

As for social security, I think it could be tweaked, but your idea is just not plausable or fair. I'm also personally banking more on a 401K to keep me alive and well than a social security check in the later years of my life.

Regarding defense, I tend to agree with you that it isn't run very efficiently. We pour a whole lot of money into it yet we always seem to need more. But then again, I like to side with diplomacy more than force, and I'd tend to wager you might feel otherwise...

It sure is easy to bitch, but it would be nice to hear some suggestions as well as to how to fix the problems you so quickly like to point out.

I am kind of in the camp with people who support abortions in rape cases, emergency cases etc. I despise the idea of just using it as backup birth control, though. That's like... Really shitty. I mean if you REALLY can't support a kid or don't want one don't have sex, it's that simple. That's really the only "liberal" social stance that I don't disagree with (other than the political correctness stuff but that's minor). *TURBONERD*I don't know if you're looking at monetary policy in the limited sense of how the Fed controls the currency supply, and that's something I can honestly say I don't understand enough to engage in a discussion about. Conservative fiscal policy, on the other hand, has been demonstrated as deeply flawed by Sam Brownback, who somehow got reelected as Kansas' governor.

Even if they were one of the poorest people in this country, at least they would be alive. We can't say that a baby would be better off dead because they would never have much money or education. I think that baby would beg to differ. We've probably lost countless scientists and doctors to abortion, some of which might have make breakthrough discoveries.
