However, when I call someone a faggot, it has absolutely nothing to do with anyone's sexual orientation. I called him a faggot because he was being a faggot. Simple as that. Words can carry more than one meaning when used in different ways. The word faggot has three I can think of off the top of my head. Only one of them is a word I consider offensive. By tabooing the use of the benign meanings, you give power to the malignant one.

However, I've been bitched out because I didn't have an opinion by gay people saying that I had to accept it and if I didn't accept it then I was a bigot and a racist. These kinds of people really piss me off and are super hypocritical and the reason why sometimes I view gays in a negative way. I have to accept you but you can't accept me for my opinion? The people you're describing in these hypothetical scenarios are not homosexuals, they're douchebags. Being gay has absolutely nothing to do with flaunting one's sexuality in public. That's just the vocal minority giving their own "cause" a bad name. Only stupid people actually think that said douchebags are representative of the overall homosexual population. And while you seem to acknowledge the idiocy in such an assumption, you're also somewhat guilty of perpetuating it by mixing up homosexuality with being an obnoxious lispy douche in public.

I think it's fucked up that young people are talking about how they're going to force "straightness" upon their kid when they have no idea what it feels like to have a child of their own. From all I've heard, read, and learned, having a kid or kids is the most profoundly life changing event - you go from living for yourself and maybe someone else to utterly responsible for the life of a helpless, wonderful person you half created.

If you think you have any chance of being a good parent by forcing your kid to be something they're not then you have essentially failed the most basic of all parenting goals: to raise someone to feel loved, accepted, and ready to take on the world without you.

This whole thread makes me both incredibly frustrated at the lack of compassion and understanding that some of you have and your obliviousness that someone being gay in no way affects you and therefore their business should be their business AND the wonderful support and strong stance most of us have on marriage and sexual equality. Rock on, those of you who know who you are.

And to the schmucks: you're going to look like such fucking bigots in 10 or 20 years when we are going to look back on this whole argument just like how people look back on racial segregation today.

SpssIm sorry, but if i have kids one day, then, like my parents, i wont want them to end up gay. I realize that for most ppl it isnt a choice. But for some it is, and if it is for my kids, i hope that they are persuaded to become straight, and if a homophobic environment helps them choose to be straight, more power to it.

However, gay people can still marry people of the opposite sex completely legally, and straight people still cannot marry people of the same sex. Whether you're gay or straight, you still have the exact same marriage rights.

If he ever has kids and raises them in a homophobic environment do you think they would ever come out to their parents? Because I don't think most would in that situation. You probably believe that your parents won't accept you and may disown you. So I would ask him if he would rather not know his child is gay or force his child to hide who he is to his family out of fear?

OCMI honestly can say, without a doubt, that this is the single worst argument I have ever seen in my entire life. Bravo, really, it takes a lot of skill to be that ignorant and stupid. To say that gay people have the same marriage rights as straight people because they can just go off and marry a person of the opposite sex makes absolutely no sense, and I can't even fathom how you thought that up and thought, "that makes a lot of sense!". The fact is straight people can marry the person they want to, while gays can not. That's all there is to it, it doesnt matter that they legally could marry a woman still, because they don't want to.
