So this is a pretty taboo topic, but I'm drunk and don't really give a fuck.

This "community" is full of the stereotypical homophobic "ew faggot" kind of bullshit. The whole masculine thug thing that runs rampant among members of this website is rude and ridiculous. My question to NS is, how many of you have ever had a homosexual experience or any kind of thoughts of that nature. Scratch that, do any of you even support it?? I doubt any of you will admit it, considering the whole NS thing runs basically counterculture to the gay community. I'm not trying to make a statement, I just want to turn this into reasonable discussion.

Is it offensive when people make jokes saying "OP is a faggot" or "OP is gay"

I see it all the time, and its obviously not for homosexual reason why they call OP gay. Does something like that offend you or do you not care because people are just being idiots?

i agree with you, and i try not to perpetuate that cycle here of all places. I have many many gay friends, male and female. I grew up doing gymnastics and was called gay constantly growing up, which i never understood because the guy/girl ratio was always 1:60. i've never doubted my sexual orientation but i am open enough with my sexuality to be comfortable in homosexual situations, be it serious or for humor. I worked at a pub(my boss is a lesbian actually) for the last year and was offered all sorts of acts of sexual depravity and would just say thanks but no thanks, there is no need to freak out.

last night i was hanging out with a gay friend. he can dance beyonce's "single ladies" almost better than her. it wasnt a date, he knows im straight. It is just really wonderful to actually hang out with someone who is genuinely 100% themselves and comfortable in their own skin. i have always had so much respect for him. i can only imagine what he has put up with his whole life.

as for support, it doesnt really affect me in any way so why would i even care. i think people have the right to pursue happiness, and if having a relationship with a person of the same gender makes them happy, then by all means, be happy.

*crosses fingers and hopes that in the ten minutes it took to write this, the thread hasnt turned to gay bashing and is actually a reasonable discussion*

IMO there's nothing wrong with homosexuals so long as they aren't extremely flamboyant about it. I'm talking dudes in fishnets and heels spanking eachother in public. If it's not okay for a straight couple to do that what makes it OK just because someone is gay?

I fully support the gay community but the majority of my friends do not. My uncle who is getting married in a few months is gay so I was brought up to be tolerant of any sort of "different" sexual orientation. However, I'll often describe someone straight who is doing something to upset me as a faggot. Idk, I guess the straight community is desensitized to that word because it is used so much. Well whatever, there's my two cents.

In really surprised nobody has mentioned Reese (loveninja) or Wyatt ( Arabian). The former is gay and the latter a transsexual lesbian (forgive me if cis privilege lead me to use the wrong term for your gender identity, Wyatt). Anyway, I have friends who happen to be gay and I fully support the movement. Just because NS is good by the internet's horrific standards doesn't mean it couldn't be substantially better.

Doing that perpetuates a negative association with homosexuality just like words like "bitch" and "cunt" do for women and like "pussy" does for the gender binarism.

Gay to me is meh, I'll still say something is "gay" because for my whole life calling something "gay" meant lame or stupid or whatever, it never was a homophobic slur. Fag and faggot is something I'd like to see eliminated from vocabularies but I know plenty of people who still say it in non-homophobic ways... but thats not the point. If you were a homosexual and you heard people tossing faggot and queer around, you'd be decently uncomfortable.

I think as a society in the usa, were still in a big transition point for homophobic slurs because well there are tons of people who still hate gay people. It'll probably be awhile before calling someone a faggot will be as frowned upon as calling someone a nigger.

The whole use of "gay, homo, or even fag" as a slur has been decreasing in outside life, but on the internet it's ever prevalent. If it's directed at me that isn't in an attacking manner (ie: calling me homo and adding on to it with other slurs) I don't mind it as much. But when it's used to attack and make me feel bad I'm totally against it. I'd like to see the use of it as a slur be eradicated, but even having less people use it is fine by me.

Bold n-bomb usage. I can sympathize; it's hard for me to avoid charged language but making a conscious effort is within all our grasps. Hell, four years ago, I tossed around "retarded" all the time. I hope I can look back in four more and say the same thing about many other similar words.

Even that, I haven't heard much about. If anything, there is the same amount of both gay and homophobic talk across the board. just seems like more anti-gay talk without anything to back it up with.

There's so much wrong with this post, ignoring the multitude of spelling and grammatical errors. Let's start with the idea of one's sexual preference being a "choice". You're wrong there. It's also fairly easy to make implicitly obvious you are homosexual without explicitly stating it. Finally, being homophobic isn't inherently a valid reason to be fired.

if someone thinks it is choice or even says it is choice they dont agree with that is fine, but if they act upon that belief and infringe on someone's freedom through that then of course there should be repercussions.

It's a little different from the gender binarism but it still assumes a "typical" behavior so it's not ideal. There are certainly much more harmful things to say, though.
