Henrik Harlaut starts competing in Big Mountain!

As topic above Henrik will be doing his first big mountain this weekend in Riksgränsen located in the north of Sweden.
The Scandinavian Big mountain Championship will be taking place there with FTW riders like Reine Barkered (verbier Extreme winner this year), Wille Lindberg (FWT rider) and worldcup racer Mattias Hargin.

Henrik says in the interview that he has been gaining some Big mountain Experience the last couple of weeks shoting for the new inspiered movie and that he is looking forward towards the competitios. He further says that he doesnt feel any pressure at all even tho he is a respected rider in sweden, that he is just out there for the fun

Henny had a good line going for him today, but crashed on a massive nosebud cork sev from a windlip. Everyone sent it so hard today. Waiting to see a reply of those 2

Ryanvdonkto be honest those conditions looked pretty average for big mountain comps. there was like 120 competitors in the men's field, that's HUGE.


The conditions really were pretty fucked, partially due to there being 200 competitors all over the face for the 2 days leading up to the comp. It was flat light on icy refrozen crud.

The first run of finals were sick today though, bummed I backslapped yesterday and got cut.

Sick comp though, will be back next year.

I ski kirkwood, we host a FWT stop, or did ;( anywho, we also host Twisted sisters, another freeride comp, which is held inside the resort, Twisted sisters looks as gnarly as anything on this venue.



The FWT stop is held on the cirque, which is permanently closed to the public.



No, I still think this freeride comp is pretty tame, even in the shit fuck conditions. Try skiing those conditions on the cirque, that will separate the men from the boys.

Haha, so unless it's the FWT it's not a 'real' freeride comp? How about having a bunch of FWT athletes competing, and being one of the longest running comps in freeskiing.

You're clearly way too hardcore to care about that stuff though.

What is interesting to note is that just about all of those guys came from big mountains. A guy like CR, for instance, got to ski Squaw from the time he could crawl, so is it really fair to call him a park guy? Many might get recognition for their park stuff first, even though they were always skiing the mountain on a day to day basis.

The head judge awards the riders line score, and then all three judges give their scores for the other four categories. The scores in these four categories aren't allowed to be more than 3 points above the line score. This being said, Henrik obviously has the style and energy category locked down, and I don't think the line score will be too much of an issue for him. I doubt his technique score will be very good at all, but if he can be fluid and stay in control throughout his run, he might still have a chance.


This is the judging criteria for ifsa events. Fwt and other independent events use a much different system. Not rue what they use at the sbmc but I assume it is closer to fwt criteria than anything

Dane was still doing stock tricks in 2007 well after already winning adult comps as a junior. I can't think of too many examples of people progressing that way.

I just want to add that I've learned some really interesting things in trying to check out those results articles on freeride.se and not speaking Swedish... Mostly that 'slutspurt' and 'turbofart' are words in Swedish... Hehe...

I think its hard to say anything about any venues unless you have rode it. Videos lie i found out.

Speaking as someone who have done both those venues plus about 50 others, Riksgränsen is really gnarly, not so much for the exposure (that depends on the year, this year it was extremely filled in). Its much steeper than other comps i have done, especially the finals. Its hard to tell from videos but if you fall up there there is no stopping. Thats why you see people falling the way they do, multiple tomahawks.

And "permanently closed" arias do not exist in Scandinavia. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything? Here no resort or other can close terrain. It is alway open for anyone at their own risk.

The cirque in my opinion is gnarly for one reason, the volcanic rocks, sharp as hell and they will chew you up. But the terrain is pretty mellow, lots of room and flatter arias to get your speed down. Difficult venue never the less with a lot of fat to flats but i find Riksgränsen more challenging in terms of handling your speed and orientation (its completely convex) Ad to that some nasty snow and high speed drops that makes your fillings fly out of your teeth. Last time i rode the Cique is was in their word "bullet proof" I found it quite OK, I'm sure it can be much worse but even the east cost has "better" snow then Scandinavia i think.

I don't check NS as much as I once did, but so epic that it allows this kind of exchange still, and epic that the people at the top of the sport(s) still care enough about it that they're happy to throw in their 2 cents with the rest of us! Welcome Reine!

And "permanently closed" arias do not exist in Scandinavia. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything? Here no resort or other can close terrain. It is alway open for anyone at their own risk.

The cirque in my opinion is gnarly for one reason, the volcanic rocks, sharp as hell and they will chew you up. But the terrain is pretty mellow, lots of room and flatter arias to get your speed down. Difficult venue never the less with a lot of fat to flats but i find Riksgränsen more challenging in terms of handling your speed and orientation (its completely convex) Ad to that some nasty snow and high speed drops that makes your fillings fly out of your teeth. Last time i rode the Cique is was in their word "bullet proof" I found it quite OK, I'm sure it can be much worse but even the east cost has "better" snow then Scandinavia i think.

The Scandinavian big mountain championships is the longest running freeride competition in the world and have seen a lot of big names on it. But most of all, its a really good time up there.

I fucking agree with you about the cirque. I skied it after the lifts closed (hiked out) and I'm not sure why its closed. Yea, the rocks are super gnarly though. I talked to patrol about it the next day and they were all scared shitless over it.
