to the question above, yes, with "everyone else" I meant elderly people, of course people around my age don't hate, they understand to some point since they're young too... but I also hear a lot of stuff like "buy a fitting jacket ffs" from people that do not ski - it's always who you hang out with on which it depends

the sport of skiing is an expensive sport hands down. No you don't have to be "rich" to ski a lot, but it is definitely a sport where a lot of money is spent. not only on gear and tickets etc, but traveling up to the hill, places to stay, food, gas, etc. thats what really gets me in the winter. i can afford gear, mostly because i use my shit till it is literally fucking broken. and even then, sometimes i don't have the money to buy new stuff, i still skiing in a pair of 5 year old rossi boots with a 6 inch crack down the side. but i epoxied it and they get me by. i still ride the original k2 made in aks on pow days, and my array of park skis mostly consists of busted up 4 or 5 year old skis that i got for a discount either from friends who are/ were sponsored or from crazy good deals i found online. that being said, the " newest pair" of park skis i have are the original fisher addicts. the first year they made em. skiing is so damn expensive, no getting around that, but you can get around some of the money pits, by buying used, getting hooked up from a friend, or just spending the extra time to search online / search local shops and c if they have any deals going on etc. but ya, when its all said and done, gear and passes / tickets i can usually afford if i play my cards right. but the gas , travel thing is what really gets me. thats why i ski at a local mountain with 2 lifts and no terrain park 95% of the winter, but i am so lucky that my local resort is only 45 min away from my house max. but ski trips are almost a thing of the past for me. or at-least till my career gets going and i have some expendable income etc. just too spend y, and when you have a great local resort that is close it is kind of hard to justify going to a large ski resort unless you are going like once or twice a year, that kinda makes it a special occasion etc. skiings not for the "rich", its for anybody that can scrap enough money together to do it. find ways around the money pits, you cant get around all of them, but when you play your cards right, there are ways to save money and still enjoy the expensive sport of skiing that we all love .

TL;DR - skiing is expensive ,no way around that fact, but if you play your cards wisely, you don't have to be rich to be a skier.

That's not true, you're a decimal off to begin with. 80k is an extremely high average as well.

I think the further you are from skiing, the wealthier you have to be. If you live very near mountains it can be possible to make it work with cheap passes and gear. It is not easy, but it can be done.

If you have to travel from Atlanta or Florida it helps to be rich.

Truth. When I lived in the UK I was nowhere near a mountain, so to ski i either had to go to a fridge or take a ski trip abroad. I took maybe 2 trips per year and I'd average 25 ski days per year. A really cheap 2 week trip end of season to a shitty mountain in Europe would cost around $1000 total. So per year I would spend an average of $3000 inc buying new gear if I needed it.

Now I live in the Middle East and to take a 2 week ski trip is upwards of $2500 because flights are so expensive. So I'm spending the same amount per season but I only got 10-12 days skiing. Sucks.
