What position do the people that set up lights for concerts and shows have? I set up some lights for the school's fashion show and their Battle of the Bands last year. I thought it was pretty fun and could be a career I could fall back on if what I'm planning on doing doesn't work out for whatever reason. Anyone know, or is anyone in that field of work?
The position is called Lighting Technician, and there are plenty of courses you can take for it. There's some specific programs for it, but apparently something like a music technology degree would get your foot in the door. This is just stuff im getting from the google machine though. Also sounds like just working your way in at big stadiums could work.
There's someone on NS that is a sound or lighting technician/engineer. I think it might be Yuck, but I'm not certain. Hopefully that person will pop into this thread.
Find a band that's small enough they don't have one, but big enough they could use one and see if you can hop in as an LD.
Maybe even look around your area for venues. Talk to the owners. See if you can intern and learn about sound/lighting.
I've always been fascinated by it but I'm always on the other side. Would love to give it a whirl but don't have the time.
Idk how you get into the event side of the lighting really. I know you can get on the stage building crews that do concerts regionally. Not sure if the lighting is through them though.
I feel like anything involved in event setup and production can help you though.
