X Games awarding medals for Video Games

I don't think there has been a thread about this yet and I know this is for the summer x-games, but I hadn't heard of this until now so I am assuming most of you hadn't either. Apparently ESPN has made a deal with Major League Gaming (MLG) and there will be a Call of Duty tournament at the x games this year in Austin and the winning team will get an actual X Games medal.

Is this a joke? So some nerdy kid who hasn't seen the sun in a year and probably can't even ride a skateboard is going to have a legit x games gold medal? ESPN is actually going out of their way to ruin the x games for everyone that actually enjoys them. When did video games become an action or extreme sport? I don't know if people have really heard about this yet and my bad if there has been a thread for it already but I couldn't find one when I searched quickly. What do you guys think?

Xgames have sucked balls for 10 or 12 years. It's all about the money. They would drop ski slopestyle and replaces it with



if they thought it would get them more money. Xgames is about the money not the sport. Wish there were some bigger core contests. It seems like nobody wants to challenge them. Sure they're much bigger now then the 90s when there were other comps going on but the market is also much larger. If the right people got together and made a legit comp for some of the different sports it'd be fucking awesome.

I mean x games will drop skier cross, bmx dirt then pick them up then drop them. Yet they'll give medals away for video games? Lol.

Xgames are the zumiez of action sports comps.

I would prefer the Xgames sponsor Quidditch over any video game. At least Quidditch involves full body physical activity and some sore of athleticism compared to video games. Society is a fucking joke now; over sensitized, politically correct, emotionally compromised bullshit.

It's not about rewarding kids for playing video games it's about bringing in $$$. Video games are in with their target demographic and will also bring in some others who might not be as into action sports.


I just feel like if people wanted to they could make something better. It wouldn't get them rich but could offer courses on the same level keep out the bullshit events and even add some fun events liked banked slaloms and stuff.

I don't think the people at Xgames no how to have fun.

"x games is about money"... well no shit. what company isnt? you think red bull would be sponsoring any athletes if they didnt bring in $$ to the company? money makes the world go round, sad to say it but its true.

i dont think that call of duty necessarily belongs in an "extreme sports" event, but who cares. i think its perfectly reasonable for athletes to be upset about this addition because of their sacrifice. i would honestly rather watch call of duty over any snowmobile event. or all the damn ice skating in the olympics.

First I play video games and actually am pretty nasty at COD. Not hating because I think they're nerds.

Not every comp is driven for the money. Obviously you want an event to be successful so it can grow and happen in the future. Xgames will randomly can any sport and replace it if they feel it will get a better crowd, then they'll bring that event back if needed and pretend like nothing happened.

Inb4 slopestyle is replaced by snowmobile best decals, most fashion savvy attendee, or best flix tricks edit.

Inb4 MMA comes in and further kills what's left xgames.

Also what the hell does ice skating have to do with anything?
