When you send a resume to a company and they say "we're not adding to our team right now."

I've been sending in resumes to a couple of companies lately and they all have said they're not adding to their team right now. Are they actually not adding to there team or do they just want to say you're not good enough for sponsorship in a nice way?

Keep doing what ya doing.. they may really not be hiring right now. Have you had any professionals look at resume for tips? Like a career counselor or anything?

Just checked your videos quickly and saw that your season recap is 5 min long, I hope you didn't sent them that. Make it 3min max, and it's really all about your skiing in a "promo" video, so I wouldn't put any slowmo and I'd fit as many tricks as possible and only keep the best. You wan't them to say "wow I want to see more of that guy" when they finish watching your edit

Although you're a sick skier and have mad skills, a big company like Armada or whatever won't sponsor someone so obsolete. The best way to get sponsored is to enter comps and get your name out there. Look at Charlie Cultara he got a hook up with ON3P because of mashed potatoes, that's not because he's the best skiier and a future X games winner, it's because has been noticed in the NS community. Same thing will go if you get your name out there in the comp/newschoolers scene. You win comps, you get free shit, simple as that. Just don't have any expectations to who you want your sponsor to be. You're better off trying to get sponsored by a shop then they will have connections to the bigger brands.

If you wanna be sponsored you need to have a following, if you want to have a following, you need to do something unique or win some comps.

Op, your skiing is getting there. The edit needs some work though. Dont show shots where you come off a rail early or you revert out. Show only your very very best stuff. Aim for 1 min of banger shots rather then 2-3mins of average shots.

As for where to send it dont bother with brands yet. Start with local shops. You need to build up slowly. See if some shops will hook you up to go to comps ect. Hopefully then you can get a few results and brands may start taking notice. Trying to get in with a brand intially will require you to be somthing very special.

Great start! sending edits to large companies is tough like stated above. start small with small goals, try to get a pro form from a small company. buy a discount pair of skis and use their logo in your video to hype the skis and yourself! this stoke will grow like a bonfire, and eventually you will have people looking for you.

as far as the op, and interpreting a response from a company, and actually riding for ski companies, you can expect the worst. from never getting what you expected, to signing season long deals that get axed due to politics alone...its dog eat dog, and ski companies arent making millions. everyone wants their friend to be pro, and dont even care about the sport when it comes down to it

yeah as said, you need to cut down that video by like half at least, for time's sake, and overall impression-- i skipped through it and some shots i was going niice, others i was seriously wondering why you included it. like, one shot youre doing a rodeo 7, another youre coming off a 10 foot rail early... edit it way down and tell a story with your shots

especially take all the box shots out

honestly, I dont mean any offence or anything but there are literally a shit-ton of guys around your skill level in the park. If you hang out for any amount of time at whistler or summit you will realize how incredibly deep the talent pool of unsponsored skiers is. that edit didnt really stand out as unique in any way.

you definitely have some skills, but if you want to get paid to ski or even some hookups I would suggest putting together a legit backcountry and urban edit, or start putting up solid comp results. that stuff will get you noticed, and if you have what it takes it will likely be them that gets in touch with you - not the other way around.

good luck man , really dont mean to hate at all just giving my honest opinion.

Yeah I've tried the whole emailing thing, typically get that response. I think its definitely the reps way of saying sorry but your not good enough or you don't stand out individually

No. Maybe we're different but we really don't care at all about competition results. If you do them great, but they really have no bearing on our decision to sponsor someone or not.

with soo many skiers in the park, its actually easier to get "something" going because alot of people dont try or care. but a real brand ambassador does work, and it shows through brand representation through videos and photos! just dont be suprised if you start off with a discount or proform, companies cant send full lines of gear to everyone.

Don't rush into being sponsored, people assume if they get any sort of sponsor that makes them a good skier. In reality the only way to be a good skier is to be a good skier, after that sponsors will come a gnawing.

I assume it's a combination. It's probably true that, unless they specifically advertise that they are looking for sponsors, they aren't really interested in adding anyone right now. They can't afford to pay every good skier out there to ski for them. That said, if you throw double flips off 80 foot cliffs on Alaska spine walls, some companies will probably make an exception and add you even if they're 'not currently adding/looking'.

From what I've been around being a good skier is more or less the base, so having that is key but getting "sponsored" has a lot to do with your personality. If you're a chill kid that is respected in the places you ride you're probably more likely to get hooked up than if you are crazy skilled and an asshole. My buddy Leif got hooked up with Nightmare (snowboarding, I know, wrong site) because he's a good boarder, but mostly because he talked with the team manager and rode with him and was having fun and could show he's sick to be around. I feel like that just as big a part of sponsors as skill level, at least at the grass roots/ early stages. NS knows whats up for sure, try and make connections with the people at your mountain, start small, try and ride with people in the industry where you live because thats how it started for all of the "sponsored" people i work with.
