How to remove wasps from dj/dh/mtb trails

last year our dirt tracks became unusable because of the thousands of wasps calling our dirt jumps home. even after adding massive amounts of dirt, water and pack the shit out of the dirt to a cement consistency the wasps still create like 10 fresh holes per jump every night.

our single tracks jumps and ladders are becoming unusable as wasps are extremely active and aggressive as the temperatures in upstate NY have finally remained fairly mild.

Has anyone dealt with removing wasps/hornets from an large area ?

Are they the ones that dig in the ground and nest there, or in the trees? If they're in the ground, I think towards the end of the day the all go back to their hive or something. Look into that. When they're all there, pour boiling water down the holes they make.

If they are in trees, just climb the tree with a kettle of boiling water and pour it onto their hive

Serious Response warning. Every year we have a massive underground bees nest under our bushes and in the back tree line. We use a shop vac to suck them all up. They literally hate it and just fly right by hose where the most noise is made and get sucked up into the shop vac. Thousands of them get caught the vac and they don't survive being inside. Last summer we got rid of our bee problem and we had a solid 4 inches of bees in the bottom of the shop vac. It works

- these are like white/black looking wasps that tunnel into the ground.

hot water and any kind of degreaser detergent (not soap. engine degreaser, laundry detergent, etc.) sprayed on the bees and the hive.

why it works?

bees have exoskeletons, hard plates on their bodies which must move into or against another plate, as opposed to skin as we have. To keep the plates supple, they are coated with a waxy substance that keeps moisture in the bee and literally prevents the bee from bleeding to death. The spray of hot detergent water knocks any bees out of the air, as it saturates their wings and body, so they can no longer fly. It also quickly cuts through the waxy coating, thus all the plate joints "leak" bodily fluids and the bees die quickly.

put the hive in a box and smoke them out so you can get their honey. just make sure the wasps don't come back up the tube and sting you in the face.

Last summer we were camping (not real camping, it was in a public campground) but there was a massive wasp nest in a small pine tree between us and our neighbour's sites, at first we just left it, but the alcohol clouded our judgment so we threw things at it and angered them and they started to bite us.

My solution was a full 20oz can of MSR white gas all over the hive, and pine tree and lit that bitch up, the neighbour's though we were psychos, but the wasps were all dead

At boyscout camp we bug spray flamethrowered a next. They came flying out and kind of dropped dead/charred to the ground.

Probably the only time I really fucked with bees. I'm fucking terrified of them. Bears and other stuff nbd, bees are fucking relentless.

There were a shit ton of them living in the siding of the shop at the mountain I work at. Trying to work on rails in the late summer and those motherfuckers were trying to kill me.

I can't believe people are worried about gangs when bees are allowed to roam our neighborhoods.


The next time I go hiking I'm going to sacrifice something to the bee gods. Give them some food, some blood, my neighbors cat. Whatever they need to leave me the hell alone.

seriously dude? you can't spend $10 on some degreaser/detergent to be able to ride your jumps in peace?

hell, if you still live with your parents, I'd bet your pops might even have some laying around in the garage.

that + hot water = problem solved. CHEAP.

originally I thought there was dozens of individual nests.
when I was riding today I literally ran into a swarm of them at least a few hundred in number.


now being alone a mile deep in a quarry if I get stung to death im SOL

Exactly. Think about every major unsolved catastrophe. There is almost always at least one bee if not an swarm involved.

People are scared to speak out as they don't want to attract any extra attention from the aggressive and horrible bees that live all around us.

It's a conspiracy. Even wu tang who say they're for the children are run by a swarm of killer bees. You can't trust anyone.

But bees only sting when they are protecting the hive, or they're being fucked with. So stay away from their homes, and don't fuck with them.

Also, if bees were to go extinct most plant matter would deteriorate within years and we'd all die. Therefore, bees = good

Except for those african bees that attack purposely in hordes, and when they sting they leave a scent on you that attracts other bees and makes them sting you until you dead.

Moral of the story, don't go to Africa.

I don't fuck with bees. I try to keep my distance when I see bees. The only ways I get stung are because the fuckers decide to fly up my shorts or in a shirt sleeve or something and then sting me because they freak out.
