Would this be a good method of getting up-close third person ski video? Specifically of lines that aren't easy for a person to film (i.e. a cliff where there is no easy way to get in the landing area, or if video from 20 feet off the ground is desired, etc). Is there any better option? Has anyone here tried something like this? Do RC helicopters have enough battery life and range for this? Are they strong enough to carry a POV camera?
I've only seen quadcoptors used with pov's. Seems like it is flatter and more stable than a heli. Although pbp put a dslr under an rc heli for Sammy's grand bizarre segment, but it looked like a pretty big and complex set up with servos to keep the cam level. I have no idea of the price range of a quadcoptor compared to a heli

You can find quadcopters for about 300 dollars online. See some that come with a gopro mount built into them. Normally have better range and battery life compared to your common RC copter

Depends, buddy of mine bought a bunch of parts super cheap from china wholesale and made a hexcopter with its own flight control, gps, etc (it can fly itself or be controlled in a number of fashions). +2 axis stabilization for the camera for about $800
