Radio Transmitter for Iphone 5 vs Car stereo

Going on road trip and I am tired of spending money to burn cds that I only listen to a few times.

Went to a shop to see if I could install a Car stereo but since my dash is not standard they said they would have to tear it apart = 100 for installation plus actual stereo... IS it worth it or are there good radio transmitters as substitutes?

If you dont have an aux port and have a car old enough to play tapes, get one of those tape player to aux adapters. shits like $10 and it works great

I was going to suggest the tape adapter too, but there goes that option. Transmitters bow chode. You always have to scramble for a channel that is weak enough to take it but clear/strong enough to hear the music. If you're at all handy, look up how to install an aux port on your head unit, or if you want the upgrade bad enough, just get a whole new one.

Car stereo with an aux+usb port+hands free calling for sure. Just google the installation instructions and do it yourself. The installation is really just colour matching the stereos wires to the harnesses wires then unplugging your car battery and installing the stereo+mic into the vehicle. I had no electrical/car exp installing it and had mine running perfect first try. The hands free calls are the best part, I click one button and it answers my phone then I am free to talk to the person through the car speakers and an installed mic that comes included with stereos that have this feature.

those ones are shit.

i bought this one about a year ago at walmart and it still works perfectly. sound is like you're listening to the radio. no problems at all and you can charge your cell as well

definitely get a stereo with a 3.5 mm input. then you can not only plug in an ipod, but you can also connect your laptop to your stereo and pump the sound through the car speakers....great for watching movies on the road. the only other things you'd need would be a power inverter to plug in to your cigarette lighter and of course a laptop.

Yea but the problem with those is that as you travel into different radio areas the station you are on gets fucked up and you gotta switch it to another empty station. With the tape one I have, it works perfectly.


OP see how much it is to install a cassette player? And don't use headphones even if you are driving by yourself. Shits not safe.


But if you can't do either of that, just use a cigarette lighter one like Yesel posted.

Look online for a stereo insert kit made for your specific car. I'd be surprised if one isn't made. Install that with your new stereo and walla, better music system.

What kind of car do you have? It's not hard to DIY a head instal. Check out http://www.crutchfield.com/ they give you all the adapters and tools you need free with the head, and good instructions.

I have a 2005 Subaru legacy limited or whatever which has a weird dash because of the climate control panel that runs from the cd changer to the gear shift . I am Not a car person and have no knowledge about electrical work.

I did some research for you, if you have automatic climate controls you need the pro installation, and it will be about $100 because of the bracket. If you have the manual climate controls it's a totally doable instal. I did my 00 outback and it was pretty easy. If you have some screw drivers and crimp caps you can instal new car audio.

definitely worth getting the new head unit. Radio transmitters kill sound quality and volume, and would be annoying to change because of all the different stations that you're going through on a roadtrip
