I am going to have to somewhat agree, people these days are way to soft. But in this case the dad could have done it differently.

I agree with this, my dad's not a huge sports guy so he never pushed me (pun) to excel at them or try bigger badder things. Looking back I wish he had.

Not trying to start an argument but what I saw was a kid fall MAYBE 3 feet and then ride the rest out on his hind parts.
Sure, it wasn't a great move my the dad but the way I see it:
1. Now the kid realizes its not that bad of a fall
2. Indirectly learned the proper way to bail
3. *Possibly* helped get over his fear of dropping in
Anyone (mostly directed towards the instagram comments) saying this was child abuse would certainly not be able to survive what parents did to kids 20-30 years ago, let alone in the 50's and prior. By that rationale, my dad dropping me off at the summit of Jay when I was 7 and saying "Lunch is at the bottom" should be considered child abuse too.
Maybe I'm being insensitive but I fail to see this as a big deal. The kid hardly fell "10 feet" and slid out fine, plus he was wearing all the proper safety equipment.

Are you trolling? Who actually just pushes a kid off a high-dive? That is just a cliché saying for learning how to do things the hard way. Even if you threw a kid in the water, you would be there to help him if he couldn't naturally stay afloat. You don't kick a board out from underneath a young kid to learn the hard way. That is fucked up. The kid had no chance of no falling since he didn't properly drop in.

I really don't see how people can agree with this... It is not like they are out hunting or living off the land and the kid is afraid to shoot a gun, or use an axe. Skateboarding is a sport. He doesn't need to learn. If the kid wants to drop in, he'll do it. Pushing him is not anti-pussification. You cant force a kid to want to play a sport. Maybe he doesn't want to. I have seen fathers force their kids to play sports to fill some sort of void they have, it is sad. Maybe the kid winds up being into theatre. That doesn't make him a pussy. Fuck that father for being a cunt.

I mean everyone is entitled to thier own opinion.... but I strongly disagree in no way is that a healthy response to push/endanger your child.
By pushing his child the father is not preventing his son from becoming a "pussy" it is low key child abuse. That is just giving the kid more reason to be a hateful person (A DICK). Their are a surplus of dicks in this world! We do not need to intentionally raise more

Are you fucking kidding me? This kid missed the WHOLE tranny of that pipe, he fucking hit the pipe when there was a 25 degree incline. This kid could have easily broken his tailbone or even had a spinal injury.

I dont think the kid couldve gotten hurt, and its not child abuse in my opinion, but as a kid you kind of expect to be able to trust ur dad ya know? That probably scared the shit out of him.
My dad pushed the fuck out of me in sports as a kid but he would never do something like that

It would totally different if he assisted in him landing. Nope. He kicked his board out from under him. That is different than nudging a kid to start going down a black diamond. That would be like you looking over a cliff in the backcountry and your dad just pushing you and you tumble off. You need to lean forward to drop in. Not get your board kicked out from under you. This. Standing on top of a halfpipe is pretty scary in my opinion and the last thing I'd want was somebody kicking me off it. I mean, this kid is how old? 6? Imagine being 6 years old, standing on top of a halfpipe, ready to drop unwillingly, and then your dad kicks you off it. This dude just isn't a good person

Just to let you know, i used to skate vert back when i was in late elementary school-middle school. I can tell you that that pipe had a solid 2.5-3 feet of actual "vert", where the wall is 90 degrees or more. And the way this kids dad pushed him he completely missed the "vert" of that pipe, which makes up for 2.5-3 feet of the ramp. If the kid had just been standing on the top, and jumped in really close to the copping, he would have hit the ramp at a pretty steep incline, which would have been about 4-5 feet bellow and not felt any pain. But if you have ever taken a freaking physics class in your life, you will understand what projectile motion is. Since his dad gave hime a pretty good push, he ended up going about 1.5-2 feet out which result in him going about 10 feet down the pipe hitting the pipe on a relatively flat area, as opposed to him jumping out over the copping.25-.5 feet and him going down 5 feet and hitting the pipe on a relatively steep area. And I can tell you that every pipe is different and the amount of vert a pipe has is totally dependent on the builder of the pipe/what the owner of the pipe wants (aka some people want competition vert, others want a simple 10 ft. to learn shit on). I've stood atop a dew tour level pipe and a mini pipe in a local skate park and half the pipes in between. Don't try to lecture me on the the dynamics of a half pipe. "1.5-2 feet out" get real. He was a foot out at most. Sure, looking at the video he probably did fall 8-10 feet. He also hit the transition perfectly (trust me I watched the video over and over in anticipation of this response). If you are blind enough to see where he lands AND try to deny it, there really is no hope for humanity. Yeah the dad was an asshole for the way he conducted himself. Is that child abuse? Fuck no. That's all I've been trying to say. Scrutinize every detail of my response, I don't care. I have my views, you have yours. Simple as that.
