News Editor Suggestion

As I've recently begun posting a lot more articles, I often think of suggestions to improve the news editor, as do others I assume. So, here's a place to discuss all that.


Cool. I'll start. I know we've talked before to allow certain members to have access to view drafted articles (Mods can go in and proofread at this point). You know how on vimeo/blogs/etc. you can "password protect" a video/article/post? (Only available via link, and have to enter password with link). That could be a maybe easier way to allow peer collaboration/ proof reading.
e.g. Lets say I was posting an article and I wanted an outside friend, or other members of the content team to give it a read before it goes live. I could give them the link, tell them the password is "bananas". and they easily have access to view and or edit. maybe that could be an option.

I like this idea. I know when Jamie and I were working on our Rails to Riches write up a couple seasons ago it was a lot of back and forth for us, it's be cool to just add people as contributors to an article.

My list for updates to it:

-A larger body text field would be sweet. It can become quite cramped when formatting an article, especially once pictures are embedded. I NEED MY SPACE

-Make the buttons in the 'Edit Tools' column of the main News Editor solid. I don't know how many of you browse/work from a tablet, but the buttons that are ghosted don't appear on touch screens. It would be very convenient to work/publish/edit stuff from my iPad, and right now that capability just doesn't seem to exist because of the ghosted buttons. Is there a way to bypass these that I'm currently unaware of?

-The 'post to a cult' field doesn't seem to work. I'm not sure how it should work, but if it could link stuff back to here, that would keep everyone in the loop on recently published work.

-Icons of articles, occasionally I see headless skiers because of the News Editor's auto centering of images if they're and odd size. If you could pick a focal point, or select a top or bottom bias for the Editor to center these images around, then we'd have a lot more skiers with heads.

Yeah...not being able to edit from mobile/tablet is kind of a bummer.
