Another dumb college question thread (University of Puget sound/WWU)

So sorry that I have to be the guy to make another thread about this but who's out here and what's some more about these schools that I won't learn on the tour? I toured UPS today and i'm looking at WWU tomorrow

Bellingham is mostly aging hippies, but the downtown/ college town area is pretty chill. Lots of cool bars, restaurants, etc. There's also some of the best hiking and biking 5 minutes from campus. It's city vs. small town, I like the small town better but do what you want.

UPS is a better school, and I've had a lot of friends go there. Western is a potheads heaven, and also a good school, but I'm not fond of it. I've lived close to both.

I guess it depends on your major, most people I know regard WWU students with more respect then UPS

I literally meant to say that. I've had the flu all weekend so I'm losing it. But yes, thats true. I just cant fucking stand most WWU students. And this decision totally should depend on the major... because they both have strong suits.

wwu has one of the nations best total car design programs, if not the best and in general good industrial design programs (and many other programs). now it does have a lot of pot heads, but it's also a d2 school so it has 16000 or so students that balance things out.

Maybe UPS was better 10 years ago, Western's stepping their game up. I think both are decent schools for what they are, bu just saying in the Seattle area western is taken more seriously.

I go to WWU and I love it so far. I'm a freshmen, but just moved off campus. Classes wise, I love all of mine. You often get more lecture hall classes than small groups, but it depends on the subject for sure. Most professors are super chill, down to help you if you don't understand something, and like much of my friends at Udub, you don't have asshole professors who don't have office hours and aren't sociable. Largest class is around 300, smallest I've had was 20. The education is difficult, but not crazy, but I'm only taking 100 classes. Great size school, you see people you know everyday but there is still a large amount of kids. Most kids are from WA, but a lot are from AK, UT, CO, CA, etc. The environment around Western is superb, hiking and kayaking and snow all around, and now thats it spring time its so fucking beautiful. Not a crazy amount to do in town besides shopping and the bars if your over 21, especially compared to Seattle where I'm from, but the community makes up for it. Everyone in Bham is usually super nice and accommodating, super hippie vibe if you like that, but still a larger city. Message me if you have questions.

also one the nations best car design program (design in general)... kinda hard to forget. as you said anything to do with sustainability is great. very good solar energy studies/design

and for a d2 school our we have very competitive sports teams. both male and female bball programs are outstanding and nationally ranked. the girls soccer team is also very good. i will be playing for the mens soccer team and it they have always been very competitive.

i almost wish i didnt grow up here so i would feel bad about living here for another while.

WWU is cool and has a very nice campus. Good vibe all around. I know a few girls that go to UPS and they say that living there sucks. It's very strict from what I hear. That means no smoking or drinking near the dorms you are running high risks and you can get fucked over. Private colleges are stern and I am no longer allowed on a campus just for being in a room with people smoking. Other than that, most importantly think about why you are going to school and what options you want to pursue.

my brother goes to WWU and loves it, I'm not too fond of the weather though, the campus is really, really awesome, It has the tightest vibe, I haven't spent that much time in the town but it's got kind of a weird feel, at least around the juggalo ave area, but I've only been there when it's gloomy and rainy maybe it's better when it is sunny.

on a side note he's hosting a music festival in B ham this weekend called the "signed music festival" everyone should check it out

Both are solid picks. I go to wwu right now and love it. bellingham is a good size and is incredibly close to anything you could want to do outside (biking, hiking, beach, skiing, climbing ect.)

It fucking blows my mind that people can't figure out which school to go to. When I went to UW it was because I knew 100% that I wanted to go to UW in order to graduate from tier Aeronautics and Astronautics program, because it was the best program (only) where I had instate tuition rates.

If you can not make a statement like that it blows my mind why you would want to go pay tuition. Fucking rediculous. Why the fuck would anyone want to consult the idiots on NS about what makes a good college decision. Basing your college choice on the 'vibe' of the local town, or available recreation is fucking stupid. If you want to go skiing, and hang out at cool clubs and coffe shops, go skiing and hang out at cool clubs or coffee shops; no mead to waste money on tuition while you are at it.
It's four-five years that you will spend the majority of in a library or lab. Base your employment decision on where you want to live, not your education. Fucking dumb. I'd hate to live in California or the north east. I'd still go to Stanford, MIT or CalTech in a heart beat.

If you can't make an honest statement with 100% conviction on where and why you want to go to school, you are just wasting your money at a university. First year calc is first year calc whether you went to MIT or small town community college.
