JwenzFirst...I always feel bad giving constructive criticism as people generally take it badly...so please dont...
Second...here are some criticisms..I didn't feel that the song did much for the edit. There were a lot of random slo motion parts throughout that I honestly didnt fit the song at all. It also just seemed that the clips were just thrown in without any particular flow of sorts. Personally I generally like to make things seem to work together..one shot from another (may sound confusing)...but just not all over the place. Filming was decent but the glidecam of sorts was not balanced or you had your hand death gripped around the bottom. Skiing was tight though. Just suggesting some work be done. If you have questions hit me up...Again no hard feelings. Just some thoughts I had
No hard feelings. I always appreciate when people give some actual criticism. That's why I asked for it.
I see what you are saying. The glide cam stuff certainly wasn't my best. Like I said, we shot it with one day and I switched between 3 lenses in my pockets haha. But I will definitely try to balance it better between different lenses. It didn't bother me too much while I was shooting, but of course now that the edit is finished, I will definitely try to improve on that.
As far as editing/song go, IMO I liked the song. It wasn't too over bearing on the skiing. It was smooth yet had some style, just like his skiing. I wasn't a huge fan of the song change in the middle, but it's just how the mix tape want and frankly I was a bit tired of song hunting. I would say it's a 8/10. Not a perfect song, but it did the job.
For editing I'm not sure if you were talking about the arrangement of ski tricks or the pacing of the cuts? For the most part, I get sick of ski edits being perfectly edited to the beat. Each landing and each cut on the 1st beat. It gets too uniform and you start to anticipate each cut. I like when the skiing moves itself forward and you don't pay attention to the editing. When you cut on the up beats, or in between beats, it flows more IMO because you don't notice it. Cuts on the beat are jarring and noticeable. I prefer the rider and their skiing to determine the pacing, not necessarily the song. The songs vibe (maybe the verse/bridge build up to the chorus) should play a role and the skiers tricks should build with it, but I don't think each cut should be to the beat… Don't know if any of that makes sense haha.
That being said, maybe it could have used a little more attention to the cuts… (:
Thanks for the feedback. Always appreciate it.
