Just listened to some Sum 41 for no reason and remembered how much better that movement was than EDM.


Just through on some yellowcard(Don't that's my jam) and might even wonder back to some NFG to finish off the night.


Anybody else miss pop punk bands?

The new stuff is just horrible. Doesn't make Dookie their best. The first two mainstream eps/ albums they released were fucken awesome

Dookie just happens to be one of the first punk albums I bought more than a decade ago so that's where my opinion comes from. I've never actually listened to any of the other albums. Maybe it's just nostalgia but the album is still great. The easy going, relatable type lyrics that are perfect for pop punk. I just couldn't see any of their albums being better than that, especially the newer ones.

Imo yes. It went down hill but increased in popularity after that. Dookie has that carefree vibe and is stacked with hits.

Its more the other way to me. A lot of people grew up with the newer stuff and it blasting on tbe radio and thats why they like it.

Maybe you are referring to your favorite songs from like 10 years ago by Yellowcard, NFG, Green Day. If that's the case what is there to miss, all of those bands still exist... go to one of their concerts.

I won't say that pop punk is thriving, but it is very much alive and well, nowhere close to dead. There have been so many quality bands that have popped up in the past 5-10 years and you obviously haven't listened to any of them. They may not have the same radio time as the older bands did, but that doesn't mean the genre is dying.

It is a problem if Green Day/Yellowcard are the first pop punk bands that come to mind in 2015. No disrespect to you or those bands (I really do like them), but try some State Champs or Man Overboard

I really don't mind Green Day's new stuff. It still sounds like Green Day, maybe not 21 guns or anything, but Uno Dos and Tre weren't bad imo. I'll always pop in International Superhits! before anything though. I could listen to that forever.

I also really like Weezer's new album for once. Their 3 or 4 previous ones before it sucked so much dick and sounded nothing like the Weezer everyone fell in love with. I know Weezer isn't really pop punk, but they're close enough

I respect all genres of music, but I absolutely despise it when people say that pop punk is crap. I'm 16, an most of my friends listen to young thug, Bobby Shmurda, and everything New York's Rap stations play. Pop punk is seen as emo to them. Instead of the chill, enjoyable kind of music as it is for me.

I grew up playing in pop punk bands since I was like 15, those were honestly some of the best days of my life right up there with the deepest powder days. That being said, this is a band that I've played a ton of shows with, Their vocalist is amazing but the whole band has talent and I'm glad to see them still going strong. They just put out this song recently and I think some of you will dig this.

HA, funny you mention Torrington, their guitarist used to be in a band called All Hands on Deck that was from Torrington!

Haha I've seen them multiple times and know Justin Pelligren (former drummer). They were actually really good.

I would definitely refer to Menzingers as pop punk! And fuck yes, they kick ass. I liked their first album better than Rented World though, I reckon "Gates" is on my Fav Songs Of All Times list.

Yes, we need more pop punk edits! I've been listening to The Story so Far a little bit too. I don't think that people realize how many quality bands are out there right now.

So I found my yellowcard ocean avenue album. It's so fucked I can't believe it plays. Most of the time doesn't even skip till the end. 9 nd 10 don't play but stoked.

Been blasting it the last week or two.

Also before that found a simple plan cd which not as legit I was blasting as well.

Also just found a pack of random cds and was going through them..
Unfortunately some have that kazaa, limewire fucked up volume and crazy noise mode additions from those days lol. Blasting it and then "omg what the fuck is happening"


But found a 23 song album that has awesome shit like 30 foot fall, ride against, ratm, and a bunch of other shit. All but maybe 3 songs are pretty solid and even those have at least nostlagia to them.

Stoked to see what else I got.

I feel like somebody mentioned "A day to remember in here" about good stuff to check out. A couple of their songs came on my yellowcard pandora station but I thought they sucked. That said could have been shitty songs, idk.


Also just bought yellowcard "Where we stand" and "Ocean Avenue"

Also checked their wiki and realized I missed my chanced to see their original drummer. If I had gone when I was going to in 2011 I could have. That said I was on my way to a better festival when I got a text about the show, but it was only an hour or so away. I could have potentially not gotten fucked up and driven to that and back, but I would have probably gotten too fucked up anyway.

Looking to order some other CDs from some other bands I used to like. Stoked to have a new copy of Ocean Ave. My actual copy has been lost for a decade and the burned cd I found is so pitted idk how it plays. And only the first 10 tracks play, and even that's hit or miss. Never owned a physical copy of where we stand.




This is the real good shit from Yellowcard imo. I still love ocean ave, and haven't listened to a lot of their new stuff but they used to fucking kill it.

I love those gritty pop punk/ with a hardcore touch songs.

If I can find a VHS player and some of my old BMX movies I'll find some 90's gems.


Whether you like bmx or not, look for some old 90's bmx dirt trails movies. A lot of pop punk, and it goes amazing well with the flow. Especially when there's a wide trail with several options and a whole bunch of riders just flowing through them to a good soundtrack.

It was probably new All Time Low that you heard. Their old stuff (off of Put Up or Shut Up and So Wrong It's Right) rules. Check out songs like Shameless, The Party Scene and Running with Lions. Their new stuff is so bad it's incredible. They pulled a Fall Out Boy bigtime.

Word, I will check them out. I'm always down for new music. Just heard 4 songs from them on pandora and was not feeling it at all.

I mean in some regards I can get down with stuff like that if it has a nostalgia value for me, like simple plan, but if I never really listed to it it's tough. Ill check your recs though.


And I should look at old fall out boy. I remember them not being that bad, but then listened to more stuff and they sucked. Saw them in 05 with all american rejects, hawthorne heights, from first to last(lol skrillex when he was hardcore) and another band or two. Questionable lineup, but even with that I walked out during fall out boy half way through.

Also on that note, all american rejects. Found their self titled album over the summer. Played it all the way through. Not a fan at all. I liked it when I was 13, now not at all. It was nice to play through once but I'm good. When that dirty secret song and other stuff came out I thought they had changed and gone to shit, I later realized they were always kind of shit, I just liked them at one point. and grew out of them.

Might go through some of the other mentions in here, and find some stuff on youtube, and maybe buy some more albums if they're good.

I got all 12 of those cd's shipped for $55 so I can't complain. A lot of cd's on ebay shipped for $4 or $5. Pretty good deals imo.

I raided a walmart $5 binn a few years ago for classic rock cds while camping for phish tickets. Spent about the same, like 45 I think, and got some gems. I love $5 cd's. More than that and I probably wouldn't bother, but it's cheap enough to just splurge.

I LOVE EVERYONE IN THIS THREAD.

Holy shit, The offspring, Blink 182, Alien Ant Farm, Taking Back Sunday, Yellowcard, Sum 41, Against Me, Rise Against. My brother and I would listen to all that on our way up to the mountain. My dad hated it so much and we would just jam out. Ahhh I fucking miss those days.

Liar and What's it feel like to be a Ghost were the songs for my gymnastics edit back when I was a fucking child hahaha My coach loved taking back sunday so we listened to them during practice all the time.

My floor music in level 7 was a mash up of Annie are you Ok(alien ant farm instrumental) and some classical song... it was so fucking weird but in a good way.

Damn. Good fucking times. I still listen to the old stuff quite a bit and still listen to A Day to Remember a lot, Tiger's Jaw, Neck Deep, The Story so Far, State Champs, Brand New and metalcore shit. I know I'm missing some stuff but yeah. Holy shit. Reminiscing so hard right now.

i love everything from really pop-punk scene girl shit to deathcore. I find my most common stuff to listen to is four year strong radio because you get that perfect middle ground. I also loooove senses fail but mainly their old stuff like "let it enfold you" probably one of my favorite albums.

That being said, my sister passed away the day after Thanksgiving of a heroine overdose at 24. She was an amazing person that got into a shitty drug that changed her. Anytime I think about her I always remember all of the pop punk she listened to and now its all I can actually enjoy. I'm getting a tattoo on my forearm with a Four Year Strong lyric and a background.

Some of the stuff I mentioned is pretty solid although AFI, Red Jumpsuit, and Taking back sunday aren't really pop punk. Not sure what sunny day real estate is considered but Diary is a great album regardless.


Green Day dookie is def a good old pop punk. New found Glory were a pretty major played in the middle years, kind of the pop punk glory years. Yellowcard has always been one of my favorites but I haven't listened to any of their newer stuff, although I've been getting some stuff on pandora recently and heard a few of their newer singles.

SUm 41 is good. Idk if I really like them much anymore but they were the shit at one point. Loved seeing people hit huge pow lines to some of the songs from those albums at the end of the 90s, early 2000s, when pop punk was in ski and snowboard movies.

I thought the same thing at first, I thought The Greatest Generation was way better until like the third time through and now it's definitely become my new favorite.

I saw the Wonder Years with State Champs and Motion City Soundtrack about a month ago and it was amazing, highly recommend it if you get the chance.
