Replying to Would you pay for a subscription?
I mean so many people say they don't want ads - or they use ad blocker.
The logical extension in my mind is then well OK - do you just want to pay to use the site? It seems to be working for NYT, Globe and Mail, WSJ, etc. I'd be curious if you guys would ever want something like that here. I've always said no because why pay for something when it can be free from ads... but I've heard more dissenting opinions than ever before.
Really the question though is how much you'd pay. As a valuable target demographic, most of you generate a fair bit of revenue through the ads you watch. So it can't be like $5 once and no advertising ever again, its got to be a monthly/yearly amount.
Note, that this would be a sliding scale and we could add things in.
So like
Free - tonnes of ads
cheap - limited ads and premium content
expensive - no ads
premium - no ads and premium content
Stuff like that. You could get a yearbook subscription and maybe regular sticker deliveries or whatever. I don't know... we could play with the idea a lot if there was demand. I'm just curious if we should even start to think about this...
