Hey,
So for photography at school we've gotta do a portfolio of photos that are all linked, and they all have to be in the the theme of surrealism. I was thinking of basing my board around the idea of like... What will/would the world be like if climate change got outta hand. So extreme weather scenarios, fires, food shortages etc. but am lost for ideas on what to actually use. This is a shitty example i did the other day just as a sort of 'look' that im going for.
Climate change isn´t really surrealistic; floods, fire and famine happen all the time.
Go for something just plain weird and then dial it up another notch, try to create something unnerving and illogical, , create strange creatures from everyday objects that allow the unconscious to express itself.
You can go for seemingly ordinairy geometric distortions inspired by my favourite dj, M.C. Escher:
Or for men with blocked faces wearing suits and bowler hat in the style of René Magritte,
The world is your oyster, don't limit yourself when taking such an assignment, but also don't let the work encumber you.
Like omnidata said Escher is the king of optical illusions and surrealist, just type Escher in google images and you'll find some good inspirations there.

Yeah i get what you're saying how climate change isn't surreal as such but that's why i was thinking going sort of... way over the top with the events that would happen. Like destroyed cities being destroyed and such. Much more drastic than just a storm or fire or whatever. Thanks for the ideas though i'm definitely looking into those now!!

An amplification isn't usually as visually stimulating as something that's just plain weird.

Probably one of the most famous surreal photographs ever, and I will repeat, it is all done in the darkroom and not digitally.
Uelsmann is easily one of my favourite artists. I wanna try do that kinda stuff pretty bad, now I have access to a proper darkroom (mit enlarger) I'll probably have a go sometime.
I heard something about him using like 20 enlargers at once though...
