A fetus becomes a citizen, recognized by the state, at birth. But even though the child is not a citizen while in the womb it still has rights, such as at 8 months the fetus has the right to life if the mother has not yet acted to get an abortion. So in this case the rights of the mother still outweigh the rights of the fetus because the mother is considered a citizen and has been for longer than the citizen. The woman’s rights are greater because even though the fetus has the potential for a future, there is no saying that the child would benefit mankind, and with a mother who would like to get an abortion, it is not likely that the child would be raised well.
The state will not allow abortions in certain cases because of different specific reasons. Firstly, if the woman’s decision to get an abortion is later than 8 months into the pregnancy, the service shall not be granted. Secondly, if the father of the fetus would like to keep the child and is in good standing to care for the child, the abortion shall not be granted to the woman, but she has no responsibilities tied to the child after birth. And Thirdly, if the fetus shows clear signs of being a child prodigy, it shall be considered a valuable human to society, and the abortion will not be granted to the woman. Also the fetus is considered a complete citizen of the United States as soon as it shows its sign of being a prodigy.
Even though at some point the fetus is considered a citizen with rights, there have been many time in the history of the United States where the rights of citizens have not been properly recognized or guaranteed. Because of this the woman’s rights shall be recognized and the fetuses will not be because one of the so called citizens have to make a sacrifice, and because the mother is more valuable at the time of pregnancy, and most women have logical reasons for wanting abortion that right shall be granted to her. The states role is to provide, regulate, and make decisions, on the topic of abortion.

I heard an interesting argument against abortion the other day, it was that if you kill a pregnant women let's say in a car accident it's considered double homicide or whatever the correct term is. So why wouldn't it be considered homicide to have an anortion... I don't know it got me thinkin

i'm not really religious in any way but i am spiritual and i don't necessarily always agree with abortion but i saw this quote spoken by a nun or something the other day that made me think.

"i do not believe that just because you are opposed to abortion that that makes you pro life. In fact i think in many cases your mortality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born,but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. that's not pro life, that's pro birth and we need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro life is."

Great post. I agree with a lot of it.

I was pro choice in my 20's, but things happened to shake my convictions on that. I met a girl who's teenage mother gave her up for adoption. She pointed out that she would not be sitting at the table with me if her mother had made the other decision. Also, started going out with a girl I had a crush on for awhile, only to learn that she was pregnant from her previous boyfriend. I liked her a lot, and I was willing to overlook this. She had already scheduled her abortion and I volunteered to take her to the clinic. We received literature from the clinic about what to do if there were picketers at the clinic when we pulled up. At the time, it really pissed me off that someone might get in my face, and I was ready to do my own extremely late term abortion on a picketer. Fortunately, there weren't any, and I remember very little about the whole thing. The time after is a whole different thing. She had really vivid nightmares that went on for months after the experience. It really screwed her up. It made me think that, if something has such a profound negative impact on a person's mental state, it probably isn't a good thing.

Abortion IS taking the life of another human being. Any woman who can go through that process without any negative effects is psychotic. The same thing goes for the guy. I went out with a girl from Scotland who was in the U.S. for the summer. When she went home we spoke on the phone a lot. One time when we were talking, she told me that I had gotten her pregnant and that she hadn't told me because she thought I might have gotten on a plane to Scotland. She said that she had already had an abortion. It really messed her up and me too. I still think about what he would be like (always assumed it was a boy??). There is something pretty cleansing about putting this down.

I now consider myself to be pro life. Using abortion as a preplanned method of birth control is just wrong. How does someone, who gets to the point where an abortion effects them about as much as a haircut, live a productive life? I'd love to see EP tests, get better, cheaper, more available and simpler. I imagine at some point that someone will come up with a toilet paper that turns blue if a girl is pregnant. I'm not sure if we're completely there yet, but as birth control and early testing gets better, at some point abortion becomes completely unnecessary.

It doesn't matter whether a fetus is alive, it matters whether it's a person. Significant brain activity doesn't occur in a fetus until about 25 weeks after conception, and therefore to argue that a fetus could possibly be a person any time before that is mistaken.

If in the correct time frame, it should always be a choice. However, it shouldn't ever be relied on. It is by far a smarter decision for many situations of humans right now bringing children into the scenario. MTV has shown this to be very true LOL

My fond memories of being inside the womb lead me to believe I could be wrong...oh wait.

but until the time that birth control is that good, abortion is the only viable option for some 16 year old sloot that doesn't want to deal with 9 months of being pregnant, then actually giving birth, which from what i understand, is fucking awful.

It may be murder to some of you but I agree with. Mostly because I've knocked up a trashy chick when I was in the military and she was fucking crazy. She convinced me that she was on birth control and it was ok to bust in her.Whoops.


Tl; dr: it's justifiable murder. Don't bust in chicks regardless of birth control. Don't fuck trashy chicks with baby fever.

How is that the same at all? One is someone getting hit with a vehicle (all the while not planning to have an abortion) and SOMETIMES it can be considered a double homicide. The other is THE PREGNANT WOMAN'S choice to have an abortion. They are not similar at all. And the pregnant woman/car accident is so vague, there are so many different scenarios that determine whether the accident can be the rare "double homicide". Abortion IS NOT killing babies how ever much you want to think it is.

Should be the couples choice. Government should learn to keep out of peoples lives.

That being said you shouldn't be able to have one after a certain length of pregnancy, like after brain activity begins.

You can absolutely argue that

1. Until the late 19th century, the mainstream religious and philosophical tradition in the West was that a human fetus didn't acquire personhood until some point after conception but before birth.
2. We can argue about when that point is, but a logical milestone is the beginning of measurable brain-wave activity, roughly 25 weeks after conception. After all, brain death is now commonly accepted as marking life's end.

the question is not when does life begin, but when does that life become a human being?
