idk if its right to say "these people shouldnt be in the park". i mean, you could make the case that this is true (since they didnt appear to crash or help a person who crashed), but i wouldnt use that phrase generally since everybody started once and obviously some people will unintentionally make mistakes.
on the other hand, the person hitting a feature has to make sure that noone is in the landing. how many of you always wait until the kicker line is 100% clear? lets say its 3-4 kickers, most people drop in when their precursor is on the 2nd to last jump or so, especially when its crowded and you have to queue for a while.
to be 100% safe, morally and possibly even legally, you would need a spotter or wait every single time until your precursor has cleared the course.
in this case, the snowboarder doesnt seem to be at fault, but what if these guys were standing for a while on the table and it was obvious that they didnt know what they were doing here and the snowboarder didnt wait long enough?
Look at that video again, it looks like a family of three were just skiing down the run like a groomer . There's now way those two actually hit that jump.
This is a new dangerous game kids are playing called catch the snowboarder. Little skier kids stand on jump landings and try and grab as many mono plankers as they can to get the high score.

I guess no one realizes there are like 3-4 trolls in this thread.
Oh well, fuckit.
the skiers code says always be incontrol and able to avoid obstacles in front of you, downhill skier has the right of way, and from the NSAA Smart Style signs you see in every park:
LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP
Scope around the jumps first, not over them. Know your landings are clear and clear yourself out of the landing area.
EASY STYLE IT
Start small and work your way up. (INVERTED AERIALS NOT RECOMMENDED)
So it looks like the snowboarder broke 4 rules, while the poor skier child only broke 1 rule(dont stop where you cannopt be seen) and a bunch of bones.
Darn knuckle draggers ruining another rockwelian family's ski vacation.

Ummmm, idk if its significantly different region to region, but its usually as soon as your precursor leaves the lip of the first jump. You can tell see if he is flailing and going to fall, in which case you straight air, avoid him on the landing, and continue on to the rest of the jumpline.
Not to mention, i dont know anyone who has fallen on a jump and managed to stop themselves while still on the landing. That would be really hard to do. When you crash, you end up sliding down past the landing, where the next guy has plenty of room to avoid you/throw the brakes on HARD.
Look, I appreciate the idealism, but you know what it's like to stand at the top of a large inrun. You can't see the landing on the other side of the knuckle. Everyone would love to have a spotter, but that's just not a reality. The skier's responsibility code is lovely, but I'd have a couple less injuries it if mountains would advertise basic park etiquette a bit more.
bfulmerBecause we can only hope that the majority of people would have enough brain cells to understand that the landing is a dangerous place to stand.
Also, fuck you.
you can still crash and hurt yourself/knock yourself out so you cannot clear the landing.
obviously you slide down a bit, but i have seen people landing switch and looking over the wrong shoulder and hitting guys that did nothing wrong.

How is that relevant? Someone getting knocked out trying a trick and then getting hit by the next person to hit the feature is one thing.
Personally, I never drop into a feature until I see the person who hit it before me ride away.
There's a huge difference between that, and a 40 year old gaper dad getting hit because he thinks that the sweet spot on a landing is a good place to stop and call his wife.

the difference is that you have to make sure that there is noone in the landing as much as he is responsible for clearing landing zones. but the problem is that "we" are the knowledgeable guys, those who know the rules and the dangers of it.
just think about what a judge would decide. seriously. lets say, the father of the kid in the video sues the snowboarder because he didnt rely on someone to check the landing.
Everyone was a noob but not everyone was a gaper. If you can't respect the park and the people in it, you should be there, regardless of ability level.
Also, many places have separate beginner parks. If you skip the beginner park to stand on the landings of jumps you should get slapped in the face and then dragged off the mountain.
Mom and Dad think little joey has the right to stop all over the takeoff and stand on the landing. In doing so they are not only herp derping massively, but putting their kid in danger.
If you can't even make it up and over the takeoff, you definitely shouldn't be hitting it. The worst is when mom is yelling "Don't quit joey, keep trying! Now climb up it a few more times to really fuck up the takeoff."
"Omg WOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!! You're so good st skiing!!!"
Unfortunately the last few years has seen a rise in gapers rolling jumps because insurance rules that punji pit were no longer legal.
theabortionatorThe "everybody did it" argument is stupid.

This.
I had a situation where these two girls going up the take off of every jump in lmp. At first me and my friends were patient, everyone deserves to have a little fun but when they went up half way on the last 3 jumps and stopped on the takeoff i finally snapped and yelled at them. Those jumps are big and there is no way to see if some is in your way until its too late. Plus the girls parents were no where to be found.
Just irresponsible on the parents fault.

I love getting bitched out by parents, race coaches, and anyone in general for trying to speak reason.
If you want your kid to "achieve" something and feel goo inside take them to a fucking ropes course, not the terrain park.

Seriously. Saw them at the gondola and proceeded to get glared at by their mother but she didn't say shit. Kinda hoped she would, i live for putting ignorant people in their place.
i am just realistic. i live in europe where there isnt that much of a sue-culture, but even i know for a fact (i worked there a while back) that our park was this far away from being removed after one kid broke his back. one more serious injury back then, and we probably would have 2-3 rails and a few 8 ft jumps right now.
and if a gaper kid had been ran over on a landing like that, our park would have been gone 100%. there was really a bad sentiment going on at that time on how the future will look like on our mountain.
ski resorts wont put up with that in the long run. people need to respect the rules. that also means that you are responsible for checking out the landing (as much as the other guy is responsible for clearing the landing) yeah, having a spotter is impractical. waiting half an hour is too. but please dont act like its only the gapers fault. just because he isnt as good as skiing or isnt able to grasp the concept of those jumps, he still is a human being and deserves maybe even more protection, because he cannot do it himself.

Just stop. I remember when a coke cost a nickel and trolling used to mean something.

blablabla, so you know the situation better on my home mountain? isnt there a park rule (which we all live by so fucking hard) that says you have to ensure the landing is clear?
simply tell me where i am wrong.
this holier-than-thou stance towards people that dare to use skis simply for skiing groomers is ridiculous.

The problem is you can check to see if the landing is clear you can stand up there wait for 30 seconds and if you see no one then no one fell and the landing is clear. If your standing on the landing no one can see you, BECAUSE YOU ARE STANDING IN A SPOT WHERE NO ONE CAN SEE YOU WHEN YOU COULD HAVE MOVED it becomes your fault.

Do you really need me to reply that badly? Once my ballin microwave dinner is done I'm outski though.
groomer =/= terrain park. Skiing the park like a normal trail is already using it improperly. If you argue that it isn't you're saying it's totally cool to bring my daughter to the skatepark on her bike with training wheels. I'll teach her how to ride in the bottom of one of the nice bowl sections. Sure makes sense
