_DUSTY_Our school ski and board club usually has an event that shows all the new ski and board films before the season at the school bar. Lots of people show up to get stoked on the season, drink and get to know each other.
Also if your school doesn't have a rail jam try to get one, we had our first this year which was a huge success. Local shops are usually down to sponsor them and we even had a nearby mountain donate some rails for the event.
thanks for the suggestion man! definitely trying to do ski movie screenings. and my goal is to try to get a rail jam going. which relates to your response aaron. i wanna do a free ride club but i want to see if i can somehow get it integrated into ssmu ski. the club is huge already, has ssmu backing and funding, and has tons of connections. maybe if i can get something going this year, a free ride club can go independent in the future.
orangecrush23If your school is big in football, have ski club tailgates with multiple kegs. At VA Tech, we through a party after the ski season called Gaper Gala and invite alot off people from the school to shown them how hard we go. Stuff like that will make your club better and isn't too hard to plan.
we don't have a big football scene, but i like the idea. maybe hockey?
nutz.My opinion on SSMU for reals though is that it doesn't really foster a sense of community. If you look at UVM's freeride club, or UBC's they're like a family, and there's events outside of the weekend ski trips like rail jams, and fun, chill stuff like that.
I don't know, I just feel like there's a lot of things wrong about the SSMU ski club that'd I'd like to see changed... or perhaps reinstate an old club ;)
I feel you though aaron. trying to get a better feeling of community in ssmu ski is definitely a priority
