Stephen Colbert to replace Letterman on "The Late Show"

Comedy Central's "Colbert Report" host Stephen Colbert has just been named David Letterman's successor on CBS' "Late Show."

The network just tweeted the news: " Stephen Colbert to be next host of "The Late Show."

Colbert signed a 5-year agreement, starting when Letterman retires next year.

It's going to be interesting to see what approach he takes on the show. Will he keep it more like the Colbert Report, or tone it down and be more serious?

Either way it should be a good watch.

Some rumors going around about how he said he's giving up his character and will act normal on this show. Gonna be interesting since he's basically never out of character.

First John Oliver leaves the daily show and now Colbert is leaving his show. That one hour time slot on Comedy Central is melting.

It's awesome that he's moving up, but I don't know how i'll feel being the fact I'm so used to taking everything I hear from him as satire.

This is horrible news to me. The colbert report was the only one of these late night talk shows that I enjoyed, he won't be the same out of character on the late show.

I mean good for him but hopefully it doesn't suck. I mean obviously he deserves it but I like him on the report too much.


Stoked for him but idk. Hopefully he get's at least a little bit ridonkulous with the show

John Oliver maybe? Idk though, I'm definitely gonna miss Colbert. I love Stewart, but as soon as an election or anything too political comes up I can't handle his partisanship. Colbert was always the voice of unbiased humour.

Word, I took a bit of a stab suggesting that about Oliver.

But yeah, I seriously believe that. Maybe non-partisan versus unbiased (I didn't want to repeat the same word in my post). But what I mean is that I feel, around elections especially, that Colbert is better than Stewart at not just flat-out attacking Republicans. My biggest problem with Stweart is that he gets just as petty and one-sided as Fox or any other right wing show when it gets down to it. I hate when he hides behind the "oh it's just comedy" thing because a lot of times he takes it into the political realm.

IMO Colbert stays above that. When I say unbiased, I mean that around elections he's just as likely to call the democrats out for their shit as he is Republicans. I think he satirizes the whole gong show instead of just one side.

I definitely know what you mean about Jon Stewart I just think they are both extremely left wing in general.
