This kid that I hate got scammed out of 1100 dollars...

...and I can't help but laugh.
He lost the money through trading shoes.

He sent Doernbecher 4s ($500) and Lebron 10 EXT Corks ($600) and expected to receive Yeezy 2 Pure Platinums ($2k+). He chose to send first and his packages were delivered today. The guy blocked him on all social media and blocked his phone number after being asked when he was going to send the Yeezys. There's technically no law protecting anybody here as this was a trade and not a legit transaction.

Idk, I have some pretty cheap vans that I wear to school and wear for random shit that I like and they hold up really well (forgot better shoes and rode a couple days of DH in them, it hurt but they stayed together). They might have been a bit over $50 but not much, and it doesn't really make a difference.

The only shoes I'm going to spend $100+ on are bike shoes and ski boots. Maybe a nice pair of dress shoes. Not some Yeezy Fuck Me In The Ass 54's

I guess $50 is a little low, I admit that. If you want a good pair of hiking shoes or something like that, then more like $100 is reasonable. And for very specialized shoes, such as clipless cycling shoes, maybe up to $200. But the shoes OP is talking about are not designed for hiking or cycling or anything like that, they're just regular shoes that shouldn't cost over $50.

I bought a pair of Nike running shoes over 2 years ago for 35$, wear them almost every day, worked two summers in them standing on cables and rope nets. Wasn't until 2 weeks ago they got their first hole :(. Guess its time to reinvest in a new pair of shoes.

Agreed. You can buy some very nice shoes for a few hundred bucks, but I've never understood paying $500+ for sneakers. $500+ to look like a teenager? WTF?
