I'm heading to Costa Rica for an 11 day trip. I will be doing activities such as kayaking, hiking, and going out in the city. Anyone have any tips on packing or good things to bring?
For packing i'd say your best bet is to put your belongings in some kind of bag. As far as things to bring, make sure you bring your own dildo, they're pretty expensive down there.
I'd make sure you have plenty of sunscreen and bug repellant. Also, take iodine tablets or some way to sanitize all water. Take a flashlight and make sure you enroll for the Smart Traveler program with the US Department of State. This way, if anything were to happen, the US Embassy will know where you are and how to contact you. It's really easy and quick to fill out and definitely worth it.
I was just there last month in Playa Santa Teresa on the Nicoyan Peninsula. I would bring a face mask. We rode 4wheelers a bunch and it is super dusty because the roads are shitty there. Bring Teevas or some water shoes too.
We jumped off this sick waterfall that was like a 15 minute quad ride from Montezuma. There was a 10', a 50', and then the last one was a 100' (but looked more like 80). They also had zip lining.
If you are going somewhere from San Jose, try and take a jungle plane. It made a 4 and a half hour drive only 25 minutes and it is super sick views. Bring bug spray and sun screen..we stayed practically in the jungle and the bugs were hell at night.
You are about to have a blast though man. It's without a doubt the sickest country I've been to and also the most beautiful. Bring your Spanish speaking with you, and prepare to be offered a lot of high-quality cocaine.
The water there is fine, i was there 2 years ago. If your in the cloud forrest or the town of monte verde you might wanna bring a rain jacket. If you can, I highly reccomend going to monte verde and doing the zip lines. Go to the markets, too. its really fun
Probably not my coolest post, but something that takes a couple of minutes to fill out could really fuck you if there were a disaster and no one could find you because you didnt fill out the form. Other than that, have fun, Costa Rica is a sick and there's definitely a lot to do. Zip lines are fun but I'd try to find a guide that will show you a lot of the plants and animals. There are some crazy things over there that are worth checking out.
