inb4 self promotion and too hipster music.

Lately, I've been getting more into the filming aspect of skiing. I'm starting to get a decent foundation of knowledge about how to use my camera and editing software etc. but I want my edits just to look better.

The first one is an edit I made of myself and a couple of friends. I did a majority of the filming and edited the entire thing. I felt as if my color correction on a couple of the shots was off but i don't know.

This edit was my season edit. I didn't do any of the filming but edited everything. Although i didn't film it myself, I set all the settings for those who filmed. except for two shots. If anyone could give me advice on the settings of the camera or also the editing, that'd be great.

Everything was filmed on a nikon d5300 with a tamron 17-50. A glidecam 2000hd was used in parts of the first edit along with a monopod and as far as the second edit, it was filmed on one of those cheap handheld stabilizers.

Oh and also, I created a thread a while back with the first edit but didn't get the feedback I was looking for so hopefully i get critiques the second time around.

Try to get more follow cam shots, it adds a better look to the edit

Both edits were sick and made really well, the second edit take out the hell pixalated shot at 0:48, it just ruins the vibe, also avoid cliche shots like the spinning of the lift, if you want to fill time while waiting for the drop add some shots of yourself in a b-roll to tesae the upcoming tricks.

Is there a way to create a less pixalated shot in premiere because it was filmed on a go amateur.

Did you really use a glidecam for these? There was a lot of significant shake in some of those shots. But overall, I really enjoyed both of those. The vibes were pretty awesome. Good job!

I only used a glidecam for a purple of shots in the first edit. Someone let me use theirs. I used one of those 20$ little handheld stabilization things

The "We ride PNS" was really good, the skiing and editing was nice. Maybe try to film more follow cams and work your exposure sometimes not too lose too many details in the snow, also some shots are really shaky, you might wanna invest in something to stabilise (without buying a 500$ device a 50$ rig or handle will do the job).

For the season edit the main problem if you ask me is the difference of color and quality between the differents shots, but the cutting itself is ok (again follow cam and maybe a bit more broll could help give a more fluid look to the edit).

My biggest critique would be the framing in some of the shots. Not sure why you wanted the back bars on the top and bottom. In a lot of the tripod shots the rider is still cut out of the shot. I thought the general cutting of shots was good and I also liked the song choices.

First edit had some shaky shots, but you will be able to fix that in the future. It would also have been sick if the music linked up a bit more, was possible much in the first it but more so in the second.
Also on some of the still shots where the skier goes farther away, zoom in smoothly or move closer a bit, that way we get a better view and you also get a nicer shot. Follow cams would be nice too. A shot that i see in some edits (done very well in 403medias shady landings video) is when a person goes off the jump, the filmer goes towards the middle of the knuckle, and you see a good take off and landing and sometimes if your timing is off the skier goes over you

And also, what shots are you talking about where the quality and color is different. The GoAm shots or shots that were color corrected kind of funkily.

there's this huge paragraph by WillStart that explains everything from iso to aperture, I first used it to know how to set my iso, aperture and shutter speed and recently I've switched to flat profile using settings similar to what he proposes (I personnally like sharpness 0, contrast -4, saturation -2 and color tone 0), and for those shots that looked different 0:48 in your season edit is an example that catched my eye.

that one was filmed on a go pro so is there a way to fix that on the camera itself or do I have to do it in premire?

Depending on what color profile you use, dslr's shots can sometime have more grey/blue-ish tone, for this shot just color-correct that gopro shot with something like the 3 way color-corrector so that it looks more like your other shots , but for the future shooting with flat profile on your dslr will make it easier to color-grade your shots like you want after.

how do I shoot with a flat profile exactly?
