I just finished watching the entire story on history channel and as someone who watched survival stories often, I can say this is the most incredible story I have ever heard.

So in 1972, a plane went down in the Andes mountains carrying 45 people. 27 survived the crash and 16 survived the 72 day ordeal. Stranded in the middle of the Andes for 72 days with minimal food, water, and shelter, they were able to survive. Their story and what they had to go through to survive is unreal.




I know, it's an hour and a half long, but it is worth the watch if you are into survival stories.

Yes and two guys trekked 40 miles in the Andes after spending 60 days stranded.

And they only ate the dead. Didn't kill the living to eat.

The book Miracle in the Andes is written by one of the survivors I believe. Incredible book, I highly recommend it.

It's about mountaineering in a nutshell. I don't want to give to much away, but it was based on a true stour and has had a major impact in the climbing community.

yes! also there is a book and movie called alive. say story from another point of view. movie is really well made and sticks pretty close to the true story

Holy. That was so sick. How have I never heard of this before? Also, I felt bad how much they had to justify eating their dead. Obviously it would be hard, but the people were already dead and they helped 16 people live full lives.

Damn this is crazy, I was reading about that story for the first time today. Definitely almost unbelievable that they could survive not only the crash, but many of them made it to be rescued in some of the uninhabitable conditions found on Earth.

when i saw this movie/story i thought it was pretty epic. i also thought it had to have felt pretty nice coming down the mountain and out of the cold other then being completely and utterly exhausted.

solid recommendation! watched this after watching I am Alive - crazy fucking story. to be honest, i'm not sure which one is more unbelievable. talk about AMAZING feats of human survival.

surprised at how many ppl hadnt heard about this. thanks to that mangled woman in the movie I'll always know to lift my feet off the ground in a plane crash. touching the void was good too.

Hell yeah, that part in touching the void with brown girl in the ring really got to me. Definitely the most memorable scene in the movie.

Finally got around to watching and holy hell.

Hearing him talk about his leg hurt to just listen to. That is an insane story, can't believe that he made it down.
