This education one is huge, another solution is to put auditors in schools to track money/maintain fiscal responsibility (although this option failed when put to the ballet in my state)...a lot of the government can be streamlined/audited on the federal level as well, so I agree there.
Another tax option I read about is to initiate a national sales tax after anything over $20 (so as not to hurt poorer/disadvantage people) and eliminate the income tax. States w/o income taxes are modern day boomtowns right now, and in some cases can actually earn more tax revenue than state with income taxes, so eliminating a nasty complicated federal income tax might be beneficial (for example, a drug dealer isn't going to report his income, but will have to pay taxes on the yacht he buys with his drug money)
