Why is the concept of a warranty so foreign and misunderstood?

There are thousands of threads about someone who broke their skis, bindings, tore pants, etc. and have no fucking clue what to do. How many threads do we see every single day with this in it:

"Hi NS, I just spent upwards of $1200 on a new ski setup at my local shop and they delaminated in 4 hours. I'm no ski expert but I think my last pair of skis lasted longer. Who should I talk to? Do I go to Walmart and by wood glue? Do I call Obama and ask him? Do I sit on Newschoolers and ask other 14 year old kids for advice on legal issues? Do I go back to the shop and buy new ones and if so can I use the same screws from my bindings? BTW fuck XXXX company."

WTF?!? GO TO YOUR FUCKING SHOP AND ASK ONE FUCKING QUESTION BEFORE YOU POST THIS BULLSHIT.

You can talk to your shop, you can call the company that makes the ski, you can even try to actually call Barrack Obama and you'll probably get further along in the process than you will skipping the search bar, the sticky threads regarding everything you want to know about warranty, and every shred of common fucking sense.

Call/visit your shop.
Read the sticky threads.
Use the searchbar.
Use your brain.
Calling the company can work if your shop doesn't help you for some crazy reason.
Do something other than slather Gear Talk with more of this nonsense.

Sadly this is the way kids think now. But I also partly blame the staff. Warranty info should be told to every customer buying a product.

Exactly warranty procedures are foreign to people because it's not made aware to customers. Where I work it's a policy to tell people and always tell them to come to us with any issues first. Can't blame the shops entirely but still it should be made more aware to customers.

yeah we always refer to kids who don't know shit that come into the shop I work at as having "newschoolers knowledge" hahahah

you also have to realize that from a sales standpoint a lot of people get weary when you start talking about warranties (unless it's something with lifetime warranty like Hestra), as if their ski is going to blow up for sure.

In some cases yes but I work in sales at a shop and honestly have never had anyone get very thrown off by it. Granted some people do get weary about it but it's best to have it explained. In some cases a products warranty can be used as a selling point if you highlight the benefits of it. It's most important to explain that if something is to happen to bring it back to the shop and we will take care of it ( which makes the customer feel completely taken care of) another selling point. It's really not a big sales issue to have warranty explained.

I don't work at SS every day so this is obviously just my foreign idea, but as a customer I feel like I'd be fine with a little note of "Enjoy your new setup, and if anything happens make sure to come back and see us so we can do our best to help you fix it". Unless I asked specifically about the warranty, it'd just be nice to put that out there straight away that you're there to help and it also seems to open the door for returning for other forms of customer service.

I don't know, maybe because I understand how ski warranty works I generally don't see that as the major selling point of my new setups.

We always tell them to see us if there are any problems. I was more or less talking about using the word "warranty" specifically. You can always phrase things to sound better. sorry, I really didn't word that right. Haha
