Hey guys,
I'm actually trying to help my brother pick a new ski for next season.
He's 5'8, 155. Definitely an expert skier. He's never toured before, but intends to travel next year and get into it more. This will also serve as a resort pow ski, so keep that in mind. Almost exclusively a soft snow ski though. I know there are some cool new skis coming out next year (Steeple 112) but really looking for a 2014 ski to save some money.
Going to be a part of a 2 ski quiver- he's also getting a 100~ waisted soft, playful ski for bumps/groomers/everything else when there isn't much snow. (Don't need suggestions on that right now)
Mainly skiing CO and maybe in utah or Wyoming for a couple trips.
Really thinking about getting either the 2014 Billy Goat Tours in 186 or the 2014 Rossignol Super 7s 180 (maybe he should go with the 188s? Anyone know how Rossingol skis measure tip to tip?).
I honestly don't know too much about either ski- I've read a decent amount about the goats on here and everyone seems to love them in soft snow. I know they have bomber construction and are super durable, love my own ON3Ps. But also not sure if they are a bit too geared for charging and might not be as maneuverable as he wants.
The ski's dimensions are similar, but the the Rossignols are lighter: 1924g 180 and 2064g 188 vs 2160 for the 186 tours.
He's a strong skier, but obviously not a huge guy. For of a finesse guy- doesn't all out charge (but definitely gets after it at times). Want's a ski that can be very maneuverable, especially in trees, but still serve him well on big lines, stomping a few backcountry booters, and some big mountain stuff.
What do you guys think? BG Tours or Super 7s? And if Super 7s what length? I'd appreciate any comments on how either ski.
Also any recommendations for tour bindings? Looking at Dukes EPF, Guardians as well. Haven't looked into it much. The new dynafit beasts look sweet, but might be a bit out of the price range.
Thanks!
