Has NS ever been sued?

I read some pretty inflammatory shit in some threads on here, and it got me wondering: has Newschoolers ever been sued? I mean for anything-- libel, copyright issues, content, or anything else. How hard would it be to sue a website? When you sign up as a member, do the terms of service bar litigation? Admins, maybe you can weigh in.

DISCLAIMER- I have no intention of suing NS, I'm just wondering about NS's legal background for curiosity's sake.

You can sue anyone for anything. You may not win, but that doesn't stop people from trying. I'd kind of like to know if anyone ever tried to sue NS.

I remember there was a whole schnizzle between TGR and Sunshine Village back when the whole patrol debacle went down and they wound up taking down a couple of threads. I'm not sure if NS avoided that one but it suggests that the industry will go after the ski forums if they feel they are being portrayed in an unfair manner.

Hardly ever members - though this does happen. Most of the time its companies that get really mad.

This is where you get into 'libel'. So someone goes on a site and posts something really bad about a business - something that can be seen as harmful and not substantiated with evidence. Its tough - really though the way these things have been settled in other places is that its the person making the post that is responsible, the website is just a vehicle. However, again its pretty grey.

Most of the time if people are really lawyering up and getting ready for war, it just makes sense to delete a few posts and calm down the situation. Especially when its one person just airing dirty laundry or something like that. Of course, sometimes a company is trying to cover something up, and we won't budge. Its important that the consumer has a voice and companies take it as customer feedback. If a product has a defect or issue, we want to be the vessel of communication for that consumer.

All of this shit is a massive grey area though. Really the second someone mentions lawyers, we shut down all communication with the person, cease all action to assist them and just get the two lawyers in touch. As soon as someone brings it out the conversation outside of lawyers is pretty much over.

Lawyers are no fun to deal with, but when someone goes there you don't have a choice.

Do you guys have a lawyer in mind you would use such as DeebieSkeebies or SFB? I heard they're both law students.

ahahahaha I'd trust sfb with that kind of thing.

Pretty sure their lawyers are part of Grindmedia's legal team. I don't think it's possible to have a giant company like that without having a legal team.

So people have taken it to the point of lawyering up for libel on a fuckin online forum? That's beyond idiotic. How do you delineate between someone "airing dirty laundry" and someone who has a legitimate complaint against a company?
