Why are there no more park laps in ski movies?

I personally like to watch skiers shred
park laps at a local resort. All I see in
ski movies these days are urban and
super park shoots. I love watching them
both, but watching someone slay the
park is just as sick. Did the park simply
become too boring for these big companies?

i like both but with athletes dropping park edits so often now that I think its better to have a ton of urban

i love seeing a few park laps in a movie, urban is sick to watch but unless youre real skifi its just as good as a solid park lap and maybe a couple sweet urban spots

there was shots of mammoth in let it flow by BnE which was sick. But i think an edit should be from the park and a movie should have purpose made jumps and features. That's just my opinion though.

I definitely agree. There are still some great park segs recently though like ABM's mammoth seg in mutiny. Wish there were more segments like that maybe with a little more viewing of the whole park than just a few jumps

I think its because it's the style and cinematography that is gaining popularity. Everyone likes park but aesthetically, it's not as visually pleasing as a DFD next to a historic building in old town. I have to say though, I really love watching urban set ups because it draws out creativity from the rider. The set up, the approach, swaps, change ups all on a rail or hit that wasn't set up for the sole purpose of sliding sideways on a mountain.

i see what you're saying, but if given the choice of either a public park on a regular day, or a private park with features perfectly maintained, you can see why the private park shoots make more sense.

I think park segments are better when released as edits rather than as a part in a movie. They tend to be more casual. When I watch a full length movie the shots I enjoy most are the big mountain shots and the urban shots. The super parks and private park shoots are cool too but honestly I think they are becoming played out. I just cant really relate to hitting 100 ft perfectly manicured jumps and they all pretty much end up looking the same.

you missed my point, I'm well aware of that...I'm referring to the fact that being it was 8 years ago park skiing in movies was common...8 years later ski movies have progressed out of regular parks and into more innovative/progressive areas. clearly the skiing was unreal and unmatched.

i agree with htis because i like to see FLOW and most urban shots are just tricks on one feature. i like to see how people choose their lines through the park.

I also like seeing someone do a whole lap so you can tell they they are a good overall skier not just good at one feature or trick.

Those edits where they hit a feature then fast forward until they get to the next feature instead of skipping from clip to clip.

Fine. But, I think Vanular's segment amongst others is a testament to the potential of park skiing in movies. Either way, as some have mentioned there are enough high quality park edits dropping these days to keep viewers satisfied.

Most of the time theres a park edit in the bonus section. But I for sure like less Park in movies, it should be pow and urban.

I'd personally buy a movie of wallisch skiing nothing but the best parks in the world. Nothing but hot laps of him slaying at a bunch of different resorts. Movies are dope but I'd almost prefer going back to some of the old park shoots

what I find rather sad that these days, it's either lacking style or tech.

bdog only does stylee tricks, whereas others like gus just huck themselves... only hot skier right now combining both well is Jossi, imo.

Shure other do great dub corks or insane rail tricks without looking like a ballerina, but I miss someone bringing something new, an own style, and not just the Nyjah Huston-Clean-Style...

maybe I'm just weird, tho

what? even your two examples don't hold up. gus is smooth nowadays and b dog has done a dub! skiing has a better mix of tech and style than it's ever had

Glad you posted this. Urban is gnar and spectacular but getting winched across baseball fields is near jackass-status. Urban is getting absolutely idiotic. Its now common to lose 2-3 riders on urban trips. Wtf. Huge respect to the guys who dedicate their season to this niche of freeskiing, but these are not the only shoes upcoming skiers should try to fill.

My point is park laps usually combines the two sides of the spectrum, and let the rider's personality really shine(delorme park laps are as satisfying as his BC shredding). I enjoy watching good skier rip it anywhere on the mountain, but the whole "they're park laps" argument is sad, the showbiz elitist mentality absolutely sucks.

this. basically anyone can ski park and do it well. when i see a movie with pro skiers i want to see them in a super park because only they have the skills to do it.
