Clarkson vs. University of Vermont (UVM)

got into both, went to ivm. ivm will have better skiing and imo better student life. clarkson will be better for engineering though as its pretty much all it teaches.

no girls at Clarkson, only nerds

I go to Clarkson now and its a dope school IMO, but yeah lacking girls but its getting better and always a decent amount at parties. Whiteface is real close and ski club takes some sweet trips to Jay, snow, smuggs and such. I was thinking about UVM but chose here cause of the education, but UVM would probably be a better ski scene I would think, just my two cents

If you can, visit both. I have a friend at Clarkson, and a bunch at UVM.

Clarkson is mostly guys, much smaller, idk too much about the town. Very good rep for engineering (though UVM doesn't have a bad one).

UVM is bigger, it has a very spread out campus. Most people live in apartments as soon as they can get out of the dorms (sophomore year for some, the rest usually junior year). I personally really like Burlington, nice and very safe town with a lot to do. UVM also has a really good ski/snowboard club (organizational wise, not necessarily skill). They have buses to every local mountain and good deals on passes (most in the $300 to $400 range, some even less). Social scene isn't great for guys freshmen year, though I have heard this is the case at many schools. RA's were much different than my school. They would go in groups of 2-3 with matching shirts to make rounds. With that said, I have heard UVM is fairly strict on drinking, not as strict on smoking. Either way, don't be an idiot and it isn't something you will have to deal with (at any school).

Kind of feel like I'm rambling, and I know a bit more about UVM, but I would strongly encourage you to visit. This is how I picked my school. I was looking at Lafayette, Lehigh, and Villanova for mechanical engineering. Lafayette had a cool program with international studies (and engineering), and I just loved it when I visited so I applied early decision. Came here expecting a story about how Jeremy Clarkson took shots at UVM of no apparent reason. I am disappoint.
