Replying to Lift on Tuckerman Ravine??
I just got this email from AMC?? Did any one else see this?
The Friend's at Tuckerman Ravine in conjunction with the AMC Pinkham Lodge have announced a radical plan to change the character of the skiing experience on Mt. Washington.
For the first time in its history, Pinkham Lodge was be part of a project to install lifts to the summit of Tuckerman Ravine. Given the long traditional experience of skiing the Ravine, many participants are of an older nature and find the climb more difficult with age. Nevertheless, they are still arriving on spring weekends and submitting themselves to the grueling climb. Rangers have reported increasing incidents of heart attacks and injuries, but this has not deterred the older generation.
In the interest of safety and of making the Ravine accessible to all generations, the Lodge is proposing a lift that is aesthetically more in line with this age group.
While this indoor option has been used for many years by seniors to negotiate stairs, an outdoor version is being built to initially take skiers to HoJo's, and a second lift will bring them to the top of the Bowl. Colors and styles will reflect a more natural look to blend with the natural surrounding and provide a gentle climb to one of America's more feared skiing slopes. It is estimated the lift will take 1 1/2 hrs to reach HoJo's and another hour to the top of the Bowl.
While we realize this breaks with a century of tradition, it will provide easy access to those who treasure the Tuckerman's experience the most. We hope you will support us in this project.
Please see below for a map of the project
Sincerely
Your Friends at Tuckermans Ravine
