There Will Be Blood


I felt like it was the kind of movie that might have gotten great reviews. Checked online after and the reviews are nothing but excellent. Very highly but honestly it sucked. I'd give it two stars because of Daniel Day Lewis's solid and the cinematography but the movie was still bad.

What else you got? I'll probably remember a bunch of others but I just watched that a couple days ago.

Red Dawn is a remake of the movie 'Red Dawn' from 1984. The original sucked, the remake sucked, and as it was already said in this thread, I don't know why anyone would have expected otherwise.

Oh lawd this so much, I have no idea why a major cinema chain would buy into it.

When the credits started rolling, you could hear in german, with a strong polish accent "That was worst film I ever see" or something like that :D and everyone laughed.

Word. From the hype about it it seemed like it was one of those feel good, hero saves the day kind of movies. And a lot of those types of movies are very loosely based on the true story.

Maybe I'll check it out.



honestly captain phillips was pretty damn good. didn't focus on the cheesy, heroism bullshit at all, really. it mainly captured the pirates interactions with tom hanks and stuff, only heroic shit comes towards the end.

For anyone who has read the trilogy of books you will understand that there has never been a book (supposed to be a series of books) more fucking ripped apart than this. The casting and special effects were perfect, but they literally took apart 60% of the storyline and just went for what Hollywood wanted.

This so much, those books were master pieces of Philip Pullman's Atheist rage and the stupid film makers took absolutely all the "controversial" material out of the story and made it into a generic adventure film. And i agree 100 percent the casting was great, Daniel Craig was spot on Lord Asriel. so much wasted potential.

TurkeltonI absolutely hated Drive. Plot makes no sense, Ryan Gosling taking a kid to play in the woods and some abusive husband and no talking and then some driving and fighting. It was shit and Ryan Gosling is a huge autist, he can't act for shit. He ruined Gangster Squad for me, which was good when he wasn't around.


I liked Drive :( even if some parts of the plots didn't make perfect sense, it was definitely still really fun to watch and surpassed my expectations

Word. I didn't read the books but I remember a whole shitstorm about the movie being super controversial and all the religious people being upset, then I watched it and was like hmm, not seein it.

Maybe I'll read them sometime. I don't really remember the movie so it wouldn't ruin it for me.


As far as religious people in an uproar though Harry Potter was a great example. I remember them freaking out that it was teaching the children about witchcraft and all this shit. I was still going to church with my parents throughout that. They were encouraging parents to start a shitstorm and make a big deal if teachers were reading it to kids. Either making them remove it or the parents would make the kid sit out in the hall and read something else.

Shockingly after all the hysteria, harry potter didn't lead people into witchcraft or make them satan worshipers, all it did was get kids to read.

DirtyDanPeople love Requiem for a Dream, but I thought it was absolutely terrible.

Terrible sense of aesthetics and it played out like a 2 hour DARE advertisement. It was quite obvious Aronofsky had no idea about the subject matter of his film.


The fact that you used "terrible sense of aesthetics" and "aronofsky" in the same sentence means you have no idea what you are talking about.

The Grand Budapest Hotel. All I've heard are great things about the movie and was super excited to watch it. Wes Anderson's style is just too strange for me I guess. I liked Moonrise Kingdom more than Grand Budapest though.

Maybe I need to watch it again, but while I'm high.

Anderson movies have a very distinctive style and people usually either love it or hate it. I'm a huge fan, but can understand why people don't like it. I absolutely loved The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Two I've seen lately that looked interesting, but were absolutely terrible:

Blackhat - saw a trailer, looked interesting, watched it. Almost immediately regretted it. Over two hours (felt WAY longer) of crap.

Upside Down - concept seemed pretty interesting (beyond the romance part), but I can't even express how bad it is.

I feel like anybody who thinks avatar sucked can't have a good time. I ate all kinds of party favors, drank the whole cab ride there and in line at the theater. One of the best movies I ever saw.

Neon everything in 3d, with all kind of epic neon, flowers, neon, ground, magic trees, dragons, and more neon stuff.

I'm sorry you can't have fun.

I absolutely appreciate that it's definitely one of the most visually appealing movies I've seen, however with all the hype leading up to it ('it took x number of years to develop the technology to make this movie', etc, etc), it seemed like incredible lazy story telling to have nothing more than a Pocahontus/Fern Gully mash-up.

If it ever comes back to theaters watch it again and disregard the story telling. Always hope they'd make a second movie (AVATAR: All the cool neon shit and none of the stupid war bullshit)

I'd pay 20 bucks to watch 3 hours of that. The war stuff at the end was kind of a buzzkill but the neon stuff made me feel really good inside. Only mistake I made was having to pee and being like 17 people deep into the center of a sold out theater. When I walked back in everyone was staring at me with neon yellow 3d glassses and I froze up. Eventually I made it up the stairs and into my seat but decided not to leave again.

Also the cab driver couldn't find me after the movie and I was freaking out super spun, lost in the parking lot of the mall.

Other than that, flawless execution imo

There is a guy who took all three Hobbit movies and edited them down to one 3.5-ish hour movie. With the exception of a couple small continuity errors, it's really well done. Worth the watch

Well i feel like anybody who doesn't like There Will Be Blood is the type of dick who loves Avatar. Newsflash, James Cameron just re packaged the plot of Dances with Wolves.

I feel like people that named st. joseph are the types of people who attend the derek zoolander center for kids who can't read good. Herp de derp, way to make an argument that we just talked about not being a relevant argument.

There will be blood tried so hard to be good. It was supposed to be good, but it just wasn't. The preacher kid character was weak, the story development was cheesy, that's just what it was.

If you made the mistake of taking avatar, a movie about neon shit and dragons on some neon planet seriously, you done goofed son.

boondock saints is arguably one of the best movies ever. wait 10+ years for a sequel, and it sucks dick.
