Replying to Marger Griffon > Salomon STH

Based on their great reputation on this site for being very durable and offering good power transmission, I bought a set of STH 12s (the orange and white ones) to go on my new on3p JMOs.  I had hoped that, due to the rave reviews about them I often read in this forum, that they would perform much better than the Marker Griffons I had my old skis mounted with.  Unfortunately, however, my experience with them was rather disappointing. 

On my SECOND day riding them, I under-rotated a little 25 foot jump and fell.  It did not feel like an exceptionally hard crash, but as I was getting up and gathering my skis, I found that the heelpiece mechanism had completely ripped out of the baseplate.  As one could imagine, I was pretty upset, having dropped a fair amount of hard-earned money for them and because I had to end my day on the hill early.

Perhaps the most upsetting part, though, was that the whole reason I bought STHs in the first place was because they were supposed to be more durable than Griffons.  I figured since I had never broken my Griffons, STHs would be indestructible.  I went three+ full seasons on Griffons and did not have a single major issue.  I broke three separate skis with that one pair of bindings over the years I had them, and they just kept trucking along.  Yet, my "more durable" pair broke on day two.  Sigh... I am sorry I betrayed you Marker; I should have had more faith.

So I suppose this thread is not overly useful and will not improve the quality of NS very much, but I needed to tell someone who might be able to relate (and care) a little bit--my room mate doesn't know a ski from a tree and my other friends just think I'm stupid for jumping on skis (because obviously the jumps were made for snowboards).  I am glad I coulg get it off my chest.  Thanks.
