Is it just me or does anyone else agree that the shitty fisheye + decent camera combination in old school edits just rose above all else? I loved that old style of filming and how underground it felt. This came to mind when I was watching the education of style for the first time recently (I know Im way late on that) and midway through when they were showing all the friends they rode with. One of the guys lines was on a sunny ass slush day at Mt. Hood, filmed with a crappy fisheye/camera, doing simple yet such stylish tricks, wearing baggy ass clothes, and all I could think to myself was "God damn. I miss that. We need more of that. We need that to come back." Because (imo) that represents the underground personality that brought skiing to where it is today. Just one mans opinion though, let me know what you guys think. Agree or disagree? Should we see more of the old school style of edits, or keep going with the hollywood quality edits we've been getting? (Which by the way are still sick! Im just a sucker for the old school stuff)
I really enjoy this skate style of filming as well, I don't think it fits every skiers style though. I think it's good to have the variety of both the high polished quality edits and the more raw / I don't give a fuck about image quality kind of approach.
i appreciate all the mediums of edits these days but agree the high production should be left to film companies. edits used to have that personal feel that came with filming friends in crews, skiing really hard and filming with whatever you had. staying true to the game isnt for the masses, its for the true ns
Yea I really dig the follow cam lines, It gets kind of annoying when you get all these 3 second clips of bangers in HD jib crane shots compilations for edits, that's why I like Shane Mcfalls so much, he has sick follow cam stuff and gets real creative with it, its super enjoyable to watch i think
Personally i wouldnt consider those days the golden days of ski film but i do agree that variety in ski edits is what really sets them apart from the rest and keeps them fresh.
I like follow cams and low angles sometimes when done right and aren't shaky, but I still feel like they have been done to absolute death by skateboarders, especially the low angle right next to the rail and then move the camera towards the feature after the person is off of it, that shit makes me mad and it's all I see local snowboarders doing in their edits.
I have friends who film with a wide angle vx, their edits are doper than 90% of the stuff on here. None of them can 540 but christ they slaughter rails with cuts you've never seen before.
I've been watching these edits all day while going on a hunt through old threads for jiberish haha.
They are some of my favorite edits, however some of the older, more professional filmed edits are the best I think just because of the quality and style. The filming is great, but they still have the really ganster steeze
been toiling hard in film school and completely disagree. this IRidePC edit i helped film and produce is a work of art. the slow motion and focus perfectly highlights our rider's grabs and body position
in contrast, this long VX cesspool of a video will never approach the level of excellence of a 4k camera and tripod setup
