Probably heading to the west coast one this year. I heard j lev is gonna be at the mount snow one so that counts I guess.

I heard that as well. I'll be at mount snow. Timberline was out of the budget. I'm kicking in half just to get to mount snow. Wanted to go for way to long to not at least make it there this year.

That's sick that you're going this year.  You'll learn a lot and meet a shitload of awesome people.  I probably would have been going to the east coast one but we had a new guy in the cat at the end of the season so I'm taking him out there to get some building exp with people other than myself.

That's awesome! I'd love for somebody to be like hey you want to bring the new guy out to timberline?

I'm pumped to meet some people. I almost paid for it myself a few times, this year I was going regardless. Glad I got the mountain to toss in half at least.

Have you been to the mount snow one before? How does it compare? I know a lot of people head out to timberline but hoping there are still a lot of good folks at this one. Looking forward to learning a bunch and meeting some good peoples.

I've been at the Mount Snow one 4 times now.  It used to be pretty much the same but since they don't do on hill stuff anymore that's the only difference.  There's lots of good dudes that are up there for cutters camp.  The panelists are all awesome so definitely chat them up.  There's so much combined knowledge during those few days it's ridiculous haha.

Yeah I almost went the first year they started doing the east one. 09 maybe. I talked to gaitor about it but ended up not going since it would have been 100% my funds and I didn't really have any cat time at that point.

I'd like to eventually hit the one out west and get the on hill building to see how other people are doing it and learn somethings. I feel I have the most to learn on the offhill side of things anyway. The liability side, the trends for beginner parks, marketing, and I def need to meet some peoples and network.

Good to here that you've been to the mount snow one and enjoyed it.

April 7-9th. So in less than two weeks. That said it wasn't close to filling up on monday.

I wish, my coworker goes to the west coast one every year and I still haven't gotten the opportunity. I'll be lurking up at timberline drinking beer in the woods though.

Is there any time to ride before or after? Just wondering if I should bother bringing my gear or not. Since there's no on hill building this year at the east I don't even need boots unless I'm gonna take a lap or 2 at some point.

I always take my gear. I think I've skied a little every year I've gone. With no building element I'm not sure how they schedule classes and stuff so you'll have to see about being able to ride during the camp.

Just got an email with more information about everything.

"Your credentials will get you on the hill if you want to take some turns that afternoon"

Registration begins at 12:30 you could go there get registered, and then spin some laps for half the day.

Also says later on

"New this year, we are doing a first tracks through Carinthia. Bring your gear."

So sounds like there are a couple chances to ride. Only 1 week away too!

Still no more driving at Mount Snow's, and Timberline is too expensive. No go for me this year.

That was pretty much the situation I was in last year.  They didn't want to pay for flights and my GM said if I wanted to go to Timberline I could go every other year.

I still don't get why there's no cat time at mount snow.. I was just up there this past weekend and even with the monsoon they still had a silly amount of snow.

Not sure. I know they used to build on inferno.

A couple times when I wasn't at cutters camp I couldn't hit my favorite trail because cutters camp was in there building. Now I'm actually going to cutters camp and there's no on hill building.


Idk if they felt it was better out west and easy to keep it at just one or if it's because of the price difference. no idea.

That said apparently all the off hill stuff is exactly the same at both camps and that's what I wanted to go for the most.

Hopefully I'll get out to timberline in a couple years.

There is no building at cutters camp?

Whats the point? I know, there is information and round table talk and that sort of thing...

But no building? You can draw and CAD and sketchup all you want. But that does nothing when someone new to the game goes and jumps in a cat and wants to build.

There's on hill building at timberline and an extra day I believe because of it. Timberline also has a bunch of off hill stuff which is the same at both. Mount snow is half the price. Also for anyone on the east coast factor in a plane ticket on top of that.

If I had the option of going to either I'd rather go to timberline but it's not in the budget.

I'm personally more interested in the off hill aspect of cutter camp.

yeah..i really don't understand why they axed the building part.  maybe to make it accessible to more people for the price??  i dunno.. either way it's good info and an excellent networking opportunity.

the MOST IMPORTANT part of the job is risk management and learning from each others technique in this area. we must do right by our customers and that means safety comes first. you could spend a month talking to these guys ONLY about risk management and still not get it all in. there's 80 guys from 40 ski areas all across the country at each of these sessions. that is a life time of information available to you.

If you're a parks manager and you haven't attended one of these camps you're missing out on a lot of triumphs, successes, failures and close calls in regards to RUNNING A BUSINESS OUT OF PARKS.

also, the on hill portion is fun, but if you think you're gonna master park buiilding in 6 hours of cat time you've grossly underestimated the level of talent you'll need as a redneck.

Awesome time. Met a lot of great people learned some stuff had some fun.

Jason Levinthal started off the weekend with a presentation, also got to talk to him for a while about the old days and the "snowboard only" signs at the tops of parks and pipes back in the day. Some people don't believe that that was a real thing and there aren't any pictures to prove it. Only person I've ever heard mention those(that I can remember)

Idk, lots of solid stuff throughout the weekend. Nobody dies, everybody had fun, people learned things = mission success.


Def going to go back next season. Can't believe it took me so many years to finally go. Might try to hit up west next year if the funding is there.
