Do you believe that they are dying arts and are only being taught to keep them alive? Why do you think the way you think?

This is also directed towards students who are studying in fields with extremely little if any relation to the fields at all. Why do you believe it should still be taught?

It is dying for sure, and I have always felt that it was being taught to keep it alive. People just don't care for it and it serves minimal purpose to teach it.

Unless you're a pretentious, bespectacled, alternative type of person who rides a shitty old bike and only drinks $8.00 coffee, I think it's safe to say that literature is not something you should consider focusing your time on.

I read an article on this today, and the gist of it was that in a culture essentially sold out to corporate interests, art sort of remains the only reminder that we still live in a free society, so yes, we should absolutely strive to keep it alive.

I think they're very important but the way that they're taught makes the classes totally irrelevant. People don't think language is important because it's taught at such an elementary level in the public school system, spending 2 months reading Romeo and Juliet is ridiculous.

Eventually no one will need to write anymore and we can just speak and have words appear on a piece of paper, actual handwriting is dying i'm trying to read is much more, at least for me less effective than watching a video and having something explain to you. I think in 100 years were all going to have portable computers somehow integrated with us and we can walk around with that the rest of our lives. And normal handwriting will become like cursive no one will use it anymore.

I use cursive exclusively lol

I don't think the written word will go by the wayside, some people myself included comprehend information better through writing than through an audio medium.

This question was raised in the 50's during the boom of space exploration, nuclear power, and their speculation on technology. No. Literature, writing, arts, all of that is going nowhere.

Teaching literature in schools is imperative for vocabulary development, grammar structure, and conversational skills.

Why on earth would you think writing books for outside school would go away? If anything, it's increasing. Think of all the e-readers available. And think of how many goddamn books are on amazon. Think of this huge boom of teen lit that keeps getting turned into movies. This shit is going on because the tweenies are reading the books first.
