Send a backflip?

I can backfllip on almost anything trampoline, snowboard, diving board, flat ground, etc... I have been skiing 4 times and can 180 both ways on small park jumps and can go off large park jumps straight. I'm confident i will land on my feet if i tried a backflip and I have balls so I will commit, i'm just wondering are the tips of the skis catching a big problem when doing a backflip?

I am the master of the tip-catch to eject. Yes, it is an issue. Make sure you have lots of speed to clear the knuckle.

Should I tuck my first one instead of laying it out to reduce the chances of catching the tips?

All depends how big the jump is. Although, I do not recommend trying it on a jump so small where you would have to tuck or on a jump so large where over rotating is a big concern.

Try it on a medium size jump so you can arch your back and get your line of vision on the landing ASAP. I've found step downs with steeper lips work the best. Make sure you carry enough speed to clear the knuckle, and you should have plenty of time to bring your tips back under you. Also, when you straight air the jump, count how long you are in the air so you have an idea how hard you have to set the flip.

Simply tucking backflips is dangerous; you have no air awareness, and you usually rotate too quickly. You said you've done many backflips before on other stuff, so I think you'll be fine.

Should I do it with out poles my first try or do they not get in the way?

I use to do all flips the first time without poles. I discovered that poles don't really make a difference tho. Flips are exactly the same with poles. For me I feel more comfortable with poles on rodeos, backs, flat 3s, and fronties

Okay thanks so setting for a backflip you don't throw your arms up like you do on flat ground you just pop and arch your back like on a trampoline correct?

It depends. I use my arms if I'm hucking it off a small jump. Any other time my arms are by my side. Anyway i want to stress 2 things. 1. Pop a lot You have a good chance of hitting your head on the lip if you don't. 2. Do NOT set the flip like a gainer. Set it like an actual backflip. You will most likely underrotate if you do set it like a gainer.

Very true.

My first few backflip attempts were on a small jump (although it was the only jump at the time) and I had to just huck it. Landing it was basically all based on luck since you had no time to do anything.

I just landed my first backie today on the airbag and it was easy as hell. Do basically the same thing as on a trampoline, but when you are aobut 75% through the rotation open up a bit and stomp it. Works every time, but to make sure you don't head the kicker you have to pop hard first, and THEN start the rotation by swinging your arms/bringing your legs up. I find that to initiate the rotation bringing up your legs works better than sinking your back, but I guess this is personal preference as I am just used to doing them this way on my tramp.

I was completely fine and threw the biggest flip at snowbird the next day off this windlip, just be confident, pop, and look back for the landing
