[POLL] University Students and Professionals, what career path are you following?

Read through the pages and only two people mentioned trades. It's pathetic people's views on post secondary abdication, and how trades and trade school never crosses 90percent of people's minds.

Here's a little story, I just completed 4 years of electrical trade school (which cost me $-4000 after government grants, and not even including employment insurance payed out while going to school)
For the 2013 tax year I made $119000. Yes, one hundred and nineteen thousand dollars for 9 months of work, I worked January 2013,then had the winter off, worked two weeks on two weeks off from June until January 2014 and took this winter off to ski.

Blame it on the system. The social stigma is about going to a trade school is currently negative, although decreasing. I am all for the trade school system, especially if you are a student who needs to take on absurd amounts of debt to go college without a preset plan. Even if you are not a student in that situation, but one who prefers hands on work like that, more power to do you. Its a booming industry, if you like that stuff, you can make bank.

Other: Got a BSc(Hon) in Physics with outside courses in Mech Eng, Materials Eng and Nanotechnology. Just spent 6 months working as a ski tech in Austria. Built my first pair of skis, went to ispo to show them and myself off and made a bunch of contacts and interest. going to build more skis and either hopefully join a company or start my own but not after going to live and work in BC for a winter.

wow that's sick. is it one of those job where you start out with high pay and it doesn't go much higher? or are you going to make more and more as you do it?

Other: Currently a Recreation Resource Management major at Oregon State. It's in the College of Forestry. Basically get to play in the woods all day and check out trees and shit.

Close, but its a BS 4+2 or BArch 5 year.

It took me 5 years to do my 5 year BS in Arch (I got free instate tuition and kept the hours down to 12 or so in order to put more time into studio).

It took me 8 years in all to finish. Did the 5 years in undergrad + 3 year dual city planning and architecture for grad school. So good to be done after being at the same school for 8 years. Now just to find a job out west (Im getting there...)


Im surprised there are so many geology people. All the geologists I know make over 6k and they are pretty fresh out of school (grad).
