Bag Design

Got a quick question for everyone. Im in a textiles class for a design program and i have to design and fabricate a "hobbies bag." I want to make a ski bag but not one to ski with, something to travel with that organizes all the crap. More of a street wear bag. I'm just wanting to know what features people like in a bag (pockets, buckles, velcro or zippers, Etc)? Style of bag (backpack, duffle, over the shoulder)? Materials (Cordura, Leather, Duck Cloth, Etc)? Any help would be much appreciated and result in some +k. Thanks.

make the inside out of velcro, give people little sticky velcro pieces to put on their shit and they can organize everything however they want and it will stay in place. needs to have lots of buckles and straps on the outside. make the outside out of duct tape. to make it extra hella fresh put a box logo that reads "supreme" on the outside and sell it for hundreds of dollars.

Make a ski bag that carries skis but is wider at the bottom to hold boots and jackets, so you dont need to stuff it all in sloopily

Better yet, make a HUMUNGEOUS bag that will easily fit everything you need for the mountain that vacuum seals so that everything is compact.

Pro tip: market the vacuum sealer separate for xtra$$$

On a serious note, make a camera backback. It should hold a t3i, 2 gopros, chargers, laptop, sd card compartment, spot for a 35mm film camera, film pocket, etc. materials would be microfiber inside, with waxed canvas and leather exterior. plus if you could make this less then $80 I would so buy one.

Thank you for the actually help when replying. Camera bag is a great idea that i didnt really think about exploring. Would neoprene be as good as microfiber?

As well, Duck cloth do the job? Its weather proof but cans stain certain fabric. You know of any other waxed canvas?

make a bag that can carry exactly 2 basketballs and tapers in about halfway up. make it out of a wrinkly leather and sort of a peachy tan color.

Make a bag with a compartment that has a hand pump you can pressure pack and waterproof things. When traveling you would be able to completely pack down your clothing and when skiing, hiking, or what have you, you would be able to put things in there such as cameras which would become completely waterproofed. You could also maybe have the option of sports specific features such as a few straps alligned to securely carry a helmet and some wires strong enough to strap down skis, boots, poles, camera mounts, etc.

Neoprene is meh, if it's for cameras microfiber has no substitute for lens protection. Also I don't know enough about waxed canvas, I'm just thinking it should be splash resistant. Also go for some water resistant zippers.

Yeah, right with this guy, definitely splash resistant, make it easy to get your camera out quickly, and make it understated and classy so it doesn't look like a camera bag so it's less of a target for thieves. Maybe tripod straps?

Also this is going to sound lame but a good camera fanny pack would be the greatest thing ever, seriously. I have been using a hunting one this year and it has been the single greatest factor to help me shoot skiing. Make it splash resistant, make it have a flap over the top, padded, maybe semi stiff sides? Have it be able to fit one DSLR with a lens, and one other lens, put straps on the bottom for a tripod/glidecam, make the strap buckle on the right side of the bag, not on the opposite side, basically so that it can be worn with the bag part over your belly. Have a slim front pocket for accessories, and some little organizer pockets as well, make the zippers heavy duty and large so they can be used with gloves. Seriously, fanny packs are the best thing for shooting skiing ever.

^I like the ridged part idea. Maybe make some of the internal compartments ridged? Not necessarily the whole thing, so it can look like a normal pack, but provide some crush resistance for cameras.

If you're going to go the camera bag route I'd highly recommend taking some design notes from fstop gears bags. Far and away some of the best packs for skiing right now. Sorry I can't help about materials, not really my area of knowledge. To your original question, personally I prefer a backpack because the weight is easier to carry in that style. But that's just me.

I like the materials, and the olive. Not a huge fan of the purple. Also the fold top is interesting, not sure about how square it is? Maybe round it off a bit, my personal opinion.
