Murder of James M. Boyd

James M. Boyd is the man who was killed. Boyd was arguing with police for hours last Sunday in the foothills after officers were going to talk to him about illegally camping.

At Friday?s press conference, Chief Gordon Eden said Boyd pulled two knives on the officers when they first went to talk to him.

Chief Eden said Officers Keith Sandy and Dominque Perez each fired their rifles three times.
It?s unclear how many bullets hit Boyd.

Chief Eden called the shooting justified today saying officers also used non-lethal force, first throwing a flash bang then releasing a dog while simultaneously using a taser gun and bean bag rounds.

Pigful murderers. They thought they were so hardcore, screaming commands while a homeless man lays lifelessly on the ground.

If he was squatting, isn't he still breaking the law?

Do you know they threw a flash bang at him because he was taking too long and not for another reason? How do you know what took place over that three hours prior to a 3 minute youtube video? Maybe he spent that three hours talking about kittens or maybe he spent that three hours threatening to kill the cops if they came closer? You can't jump to conclusions about an entire situation based on a 3 minute video.

A negotiator for telling someone to move off private property? What is there to negotiate? He needs to leave, end of story. Also, please tell me how is setting up a sniper is using non-military tactics?

Bottom line, a judge doesn't always get to make those decisions. A man who was mentally ill, had a history of attacking police, was holding knives and wouldn't put them down doesn't sound like a man with intentions of peace and cooperation to me, but again, I wasn't there and it's not my place to judge.

How come every time one of these videos pops up, everyone acts like cops enjoy or get some kind of sick pleasure out of using force/detaining/shooting/killing people. I mean if nothing else, the paperwork alone that comes with a serious incident (like discharging a weapon/injuring/killing someone), not to mention the investigations and psych evaluations, etc. It just isn't worth it.

Your logic is moronic. The made up man in your made up story who appears to be on a drug which is known to cause violence in public places is a reason for police to react. This dude wasn't on drugs or in a public place. I'm not justifying either death because your story has so many holes in it couldn't catch a football. I'm done dealing with you attacking my character by saying I wouldn't defend anyone else.

Quit defending police brutality in any capacity. It's not sort-of wrong in one place or another. It's dead wrong all of the time.

Im sorry that your opinion is moronic and naive. Its oddly libertarian and heavy handed at the same time. Then again, whatever mixed up combination of conflicting opinions form yourr outlook on this, you are certainly entitled to it.

1) They shouldn't. It's not their job. People have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It's a court's job to take a man's life, but largely it's society's responsibility to help these people function within society. That's why they call jails "correctional" facilities. Cops shouldn't kill people, ever. That's their absolute last option. They shouldn't kill people if they are taking too long to be evicted from their homes. They shouldn't attack the mentally ill. In some cases they have to. But there wasn't even a reason to throw a stun grenade at the dude. Nor was there a reason to bring military style weapons. This was as bad as calling in the SWAT team to get a dude off of a bench. It's excessive force 100%. No denying that, no defending it. Cops are NOT supposed to kill people.

2) He was violent against cops kicking him off of the places he was living. That was it. It was fully known. There weren't any hikers around three hours into a standoff.

Don't call people dumb, or ignorant.

It was a legitimate question. He had every right to ask a question and the cops had no right to attempt to arrest him. I guess your not a freedom of speech kind of guy.

Initially I would say they were just trying to remove him from the event, not arrest him. Then he caused a scene. He was asking about secret societies. He wasn't there to be anything but disruptive.

Well Kerry was a member of Skull and Bones so it is a legitimate question. And the cops put their hands on him first.

I’ll leave it at this. He got tased because he resisted arrest. However, he was muted and arrested just for asking a legitimate but controversial question. So much for freedom of speech.

That the huge majority of cops are decent people trying to provide for their families, serve/protect the communities they live in and enforce laws they don't make?

There are bad eggs here and there, but so does every profession. To think anything else is naive.

Can I just add though... am I missing something? Im not american, but from the outside looking in, this all seems severely fucked, especially considering this appears to be a recurring spectacle that ends up just getting swept under the rug and accepted as the norm. Am I being over-dramatic? Or are you actually all fine with getting fucked over by your inept government, special interest groups, and this emerging police state?

Well, if you have all three of those things it is rather hard to fix the system. SIG->Inept Government with fucked up interests->Emerging police state who attempts to quell the masses.


Offer a solution. You'll find any and all are rather hard to implement.

It sounds like some of you think the cops should have pulled out their own knives and fought the bum haha. The "bringing a gun to a knife fight" shit is ridiculous. It's the cops duty to remove a threat and they're supposed to do it the most lethal way possible if it comes down to that.

seems like a no brainer to me. if you were squatting on my property and i went to kick you out, soon as a knife came out you'd have a a chest full of lead.

the cops are thinking, if this guy stabs me, im not going home to my kids.
