I'm going to be filming an event in a few days and I got my hands one a glide-cam, I know a decent amount about the things but I was wondering if you should have image stabilizer on the lens whilst filming? Also if you guys have any tricks and tips for them that'd be helpful too! Gotta practice with it a bunch before hand, thnx homies
DEFINITELY make sure its balanced as perfect as you can get it. this might sound obvious, but a lot of people just throw all of the weights on. there are a lot of videos on youtube that show how to get it balanced perfectly.
Make sure its balanced well. When you ski with it you might find that the wind will push it to the side, a way to combat this a little is to extend the arms that hold the weights all the way out, although that will make it harder to steer the camera from side to side. Other than that its mostly just practice, took me a while to get used to it where I could ski and operate it at the same time without thinking too much about one or the other and messing up. So just take your time and dont get frustrated if your shots arent great at first
That being said, its all about practice. You learn to "drive" your glidecam, after awhile you don't even have to work about where its aimed you'll just feel/see where you're looking, I can just point my glidecam at whatever I'm filming and I know what it looks like without even looking at the shot.
