DSLR CAMERA +K

I've mostly been using my small cannon camera and go pro and want to upgrade to dslr. I kno this question has been asked way too many times but I'm wonder what cheap ish camera to buy. Im mostly going to be taking pictures but maybe a little video too. Also why lens and assecories should i buy with it? +k for help

What's your budget? assuming you're poor...

If you want just photo, and can omit the video...
Canon 40D, Kit lens, 50 f1.8.
Nikon D80, Kit lens, 35 f1.8

If you want video...
Canon T2i, kit lens, rode videomic, extra batteries, extra cards. 10$ Tripod.
Nikon D5100, kit lens, otherwise, same thing... build a lens collection as you go.

Start there.

I was looking at the other two cameras and new they r pretty expensive I'm poor but i don't want a used camera. is the canon t2i ok for video its more in my price range

If you don't want a used camera, good luck finding anything in your price range. I don't even know if you can find a T3i brand new anymore.

Really can't go wrong getting something in Canon's Rebel series. Their cheap, and the quality is pretty identical amongst all of them, and the biggest difference between the t2i and t3i, t4i, t5i is the pop- out screen. The t2i lacks features such as more advanced auto focus types, and automatic video modes (which you don't want to use anyways). In all honesty, I use the t2i for photo and video, and although I occasionally wish i had the pop-out screen, it's not really a necessity. The biggest downside to the t2i is that it is poor in low light. As you progress through the Rebel line and into the 60d, 7d, 5d, etc, I think the biggest thing you are paying for is a wider ISO range (the cameras sensitivity to light)(5d, very good in low light.... t2i, not so much)

Noise performance between Canon crop bodies is pretty much the same, whether it's a T2i, 60D, 7D, whatever.. it's all the same sensor. You can't get very useable anything over 1600 - which honestly is fine for most applications.

As far as the pop out screen, here is my take. I love using mine, but you definetly dont need or want it for glidecam shots. Beyond that it is cool, but if you have never used one/aren't used to it, you won't really miss it. It can be very helpful, and if you have it you will love it, but if you don't, you'll barely miss it. Hope that made sense. /I'mdrunk

Be a real newschooler and get a t2i!!!

but seriously, the rebel series would definitely be the best for you. Buy the highest one you can afford, you are basically paying for extra features which will definitely give you the opportunity to progress without buying a new camera.

If you will be filming skiing a lot investing in a nice wide angle is a must, and some of the accessories stated above will also help, like a rode videomic, extra batteries and extra cards.

Missed the bit on lenses:
youll have the kit lens for mid range, so get a tokina/canon 12-24 for a reaaally nice wide-angle/fisheye.

I actually find the pop out screen very useful on anything other than a glidecam. It helps when you're shooting handheld or using something like a cam caddie of cage of some sort. But I probably wouldn't miss it that much if it wasn't there.

You can also flip the screen in to keep it more protected from scratches an stuff.
