ive just got to rant. on god. God does exist, if you approach the subject using some logic it would be the only thing that is what makes sense. Now in me saying that god exists i am not in any way saying that there must be an afterlife, but it does i guess support the notion. The main reason that it is logical to beleive in god is that it is almost impossible that life is here by mistake. When you think it about, and really think about it ther had to be something that did create it all, i read something that put it in a very good context, imagine something as complex as mount rushmore. Do u think it is possible that the elements were simply a result of this very detailed sculpture, that these faces resulted simply from freak occurences, obviously not there was something that created it. Think about it. im not saying if their is a 'god' he gives to shits about people, i believe he does. One played out reason to beleive in god, but a very true and beleivable one when u think about it is life itself. Take a look at a rock then look at an animal, if all there ever was in the beggining was rock and such how would life be spawned, llogically there would have to be some sort of eternal life, scientists say that life could basically spawn over trillions of years from a rock from a single cell or something but that is still living. sorry for wasting ur time

the primordial soup theory. First the atoms, then pressure, heat, electiricy, perhaps formed proteins, or RNA, or simple amino acids, they combine, make tissues, they begin to function. Thats all life is really.

Then bacteria compeated, some grew thick membranes, then spikes, then they began to grow larger

they have done lab experiments to relpilcate this. they find amino acides and lipids. the lipids even form into spheres which are suprisingly similar to cell membrains. It would just be a matter of the right things being captures inside one of the bubbles. the primitive cells would have eaten the basic chemicals in its enviroment for energy.

hmm. i guess i have heard that, but i wouldnt bet the farm on its happening.

second question: isnt the idea of an unguided evolution in conflict with the law of entropy? how do these ideas reconcile? the idea of a guided evolution works here, but not a completley godless one.

you can creat orded things naturaly with the input of energy... its how rocks and planets are formed. so no, i dont think that it is in conflict with entrophy. but i might be completly off the mark.

there's no possible 'proof' of the existence of God. you can find things that can lead to that (reliques of saints, of jesus christ, ...). but you can't proove it, and shouldn't coz' the esence of religion is 'BELIEVING'.

i personally don't like the idea that there is some benevolent being in the sky, with the abilities to create a whole planet in 7 days. that at this moment, god is looking down on all of us, and approving of what it sees. i think that if there were such a thing as god, the world would'nt be in the state that it is today.

Nor do i like the fact that my fate is out of my hands. that we all have pre-determined events in our lives that mold the base of who we are. i like to think that anything i do is of my own free will, not a plan set out by my 'creator'. My creators are my parents, and i have my own plan.

if you dont believe in god, it doesnt matter. i am personally a pretty religious lutheran, and im not gonna force my views on anybody. even if god doesnt exist, we only have one life on earth. we dont get a second chance to make a difference. how many people go through life, and laying on thier deathbed, say they wish they could have done something? you can make a difference on earth, and that will be remembered. not what kind of tricks you threw, not how much money you made, the only thing that really matters is what you contributed to the human race. we have one chance to do everything we can. i dont fear death. i fear regreting my life

all this.....it's just an explanation for things as of yet out of our reach. it's all about energy as apple suggests. pos and neg, forces tugging and releasing. we do have freewill which creates a living breathing universe with the power to shape it's collective self and it's future. which is why ignorance is so destructive, ignorance is faulty re-positioning that leads to a destructive path. or somthing like that.

But look at if this way, what are the chances of someone getting 18 holes in one playing golf? None, assuming that there are holes that are beyond the limit of human strength to get in one shot. Now take a billion earths, with six billion golf pros all playing for billions of year. Has the chance of 18 holes in one for one man inproved? NO, BECAUSE ITS IMPOSSIBLE, meaning people can't make their golf balls travel hundreds of hards and then turn in mid air.
How can some matterless, all powerful, entity exsist? The universe has laws, there not our laws, humans mearly recognized these laws.

Ski Hobo, your argument works better for creationism than it does for evolution. The idea that such things occur naturally is, according to the ID proponent, unlikely, and it is exactly that which makes it more probable that they had a designer. Of course, I already pointed out why that theory is wrong. But this thread has kind of taken a turn for the worse since...

what i'm saying is that using other ppls 'theories' for something so personal is a bit like allowing yourself to get programmed. that is for most ppl, the ones who are smart enough to sift thru the banter and weight things out for themselves do not apply to this statement.

I don't think God exists, and my argument goes like this. Space is infinite, which means that life absolutely has to exist somewhere. It can be extremely rare, but it still has to exist. Just because it might be a 20 billion to one possibility, there's still that one, and since, like I said before, space is infinite, that 20 billion happens over and over. I'm not saying I'm correct with the 20 billion to one ratio either, that's just an example.

whoever was saying that the Bible contradicts science should read the Bible and take some geoscience courses. the Bible and science agree with each other, you cannot take the Bible as 7 days of creation literally of course. If one is to compare the order of creation and compare it to the order of our universe and earth developing (at a university level of teaching) one would see they agree perfectly in the order of things occuring. also, the scientifici community teaches and accepts the fact the before the start of the universe, before the big bang, there was a dense nucleus of energy and material, and that dense sphere 'was created'. they teach the initial creation of the universe, setting all the conditions and laws for it to work out like it is.

it is not taking my own take on the bible. no one with a straight mind in religion reads the bible as a literal book. it should be read and thought about in the context of the writings. you cannot take a story out of it and s, 'ok this is simple and this is what i should do in my life' but rather understand the context and situations of the writings. once you do that you can then understand how to apply that to oneself. the creation in the bible has for a long while not been taken literally as 7 days. if you take the order of creation of the universe and earth and life, and look at that exact order without deviation, it will agree with the order according to modern science.

yeah guys, you should not take the bible literally. obviously 7 days is a god term. like 7 of his days....come on. and when religion is changed to reflect modern times...its because it was taken too literally the first time! fuck, the bible is a piece of crap. it is a work of fiction.
just take the moral guidance from it and nothign else. do unto others, live your own life. don;t make your laws from interpretations of the bible. it reflects the views of a few authors and their blind followers.

be as religious and blind as you want to be. get wraped up in the dogma. sooner or later you may just learn to live life by your own laws (many of which are reflected in the bible, or koran, or whatever). in my view to be religious does mean going to church so someone can represent god for you. if you feel the need for the religious crutch, why not talk to god directly?
