What Changes / Improvements do you want to see on Newschoolers?

Its the time of the year that we head into major development for next year.

We have our own list of "Stuff that will never happen" that we've compiled, but I want to hear your priorities as a newschoolers member.

One of our main goals is to not build anything crazy and new, but to focus on making a lot of improvements to stuff that is already here, and add missing functionality of the big picture items.

Can't promise everything, as we have only a limited amount of development resources, but we'll do what we can as always!

Feedback from the admins on the many other site improvement threads is a start. specifically the megathread.   https://www.newschoolers.com/ns/forums/readthread/thread_id/742208/.    Theres little to no feedback in there after a year of people posting their ideas.

So now we have another yearly "improvement thread" where we all piss in the wind?

Ability to favorite or "like" edits so that when you log back in to your profile and you want to find an edit from a while back you can. Basically like what they have on Vimeo or Youtube. Not sure if its feasible but we have talked about it before. I see so many quality edits I love and then they're just buried within a few days.

I think a slight reorganisation of the comments to make it more like a conversation eg allow quotes and stuff.

Also, make it so that when you get quoted it gives you a notification that appears in the message inbox so that we can tell when our questions are answered etc so that it is easier to keep on track of multiple threads.

Finally, I second the idea of doing a ski resort listing. Definitely take a look at that thread Rybak posted.


Can't wait for this summer overhaul you guys are gonna do!!

Also one more thing: In sell/trade, make a template for each item like:

Item State: (available/in negotiation/sold)- make this editable after the post is posted!!
condition /10
Location (for posting)
Image
Notes


And make the OP be allowed to post edits at the end of the post, and update the status of items to sold or in negotiation, so that we don't have to scroll through threads to see whether stuff is still available, and to make communication easier between the seller.
DONT let the OP edit the whole post though, that would be stupid because people would just change the prices etc after they post them.

Maybe a contest sway forum? could be useful because those threads always get buried. I think that offering prizes for a random person who answers the contest is a good idea.

More member info on mobile. I don't wanna make a transaction with another member on mobile because I'm never able to check their feedback. I'm also not able to access their media on their member page

Hah lol... yeah sorry we got a bit backed up on that.

Funny enough though, we wrote down all those suggestions, and some of them should start rolling out pretty soon. So its never pissing in the wind, its always getting logged and put in our coding list.

It could be just because I have shit internet, and I know this is something you guys just upgraded recently, but the bitrate for streaming videos is too high. I know it helps with quality, but I can't even watch NS videos at home in 360p without it taking a really long time to buffer. There needs to be some sort of solution because bitrates this high are unreasonable.

I made a thread that would've taken off and been a little funny. A 7 second YouTube clip of Gus Kenworthy barking like a dog on VH1's channel. Don't know why it was deleted, unless it was a repost.

a better comment section for videos, news, pictures, etc... a quote reply option would do wonders I think.

the old "make the mega threads smaller" thing. I get it - it's a 600 page thread, why would I care about any page except the first page and last few pages?



And maybe we could play a game where we randomly unban and reban skierman based on nothing. Have quick skierman cameo's and poof, he's gone again. NS is better when he's not around, but having him around randomly from time to time helps remind us what it's like without him.

I'll give you some perspective on this issue:

EVERY single time we lax up on the moderation, the entire community BEGS us to increase it. We've tried this a million time, and we get about 10% of the bitching when we over-moderate vs. under.

Go figure.

seriously. give more functions to the mobile site. Not to mention it's literally the dumbest thing getting rid of the "full site" link on the bottom. If I could I'd do away with the mobile site, it sucks.
