my buddy loves his. he can roll a bike in there without even having to lay it down and he can just spray down the inside with a hose if needed. i don't think i'd get one though, not my style. however at the right price under the right circumstances i'd drive anything.
My Mercedes GLK350 (302hp V6) gets better mileage than that. The Mercedes GLK250 gets high-20s mileage. That's just one example as well, it's not hard to find an SUV that gets good gas mileage.
Everyone I have ever met who owns one raves about the damn thing like it's the best vehicle ever invented. I personally would never drive one and think they're ugly as hell, but that's coming from someone who drove an FJ Cruiser for 4+ years and loved it - another car considered to be ugly as hell. To each his own, I guess. If you like it, go for it.
Functionality over appearances. Depends on which one you want.
I can't wait until someone tries to convince everyone that a 10 year old Subaru with 180,000 miles on it is better than a new element based exclusively on "it's great in the snow"
My family has one, and we love it. It works real well for getting up and down the mountain and has lots of space for skis, bikes, people etc. gas mileage is ok, but for everything else you can do with it totally makes up for it. Highly recommend em
I would look at a Toyota RAV4, Honda CRV , or the Subaru equivalent. Good gas mileage, they don't have the box look, and they don't handle/ride like crap.
ive heard good things about them. really roomy cars and such.
if anything, i can't see how people drive around in escalades and tahoes unless they have big families or something. theyre great in the snow, but my family had the pleasure of renting one on a trip and those things handle like shit.
You won't be finding too many elements these days though.
I actually always really liked Elements. I didn't mind the boxy look and the functionality seemed great. I ended up with a Honda Fit though, which was probably a good choice given the number of highway miles I drive. I'd love for my next vehicle to be something similar to the utilitarian Element though but updated with modern technology that would get it 30mpg.
