Japan still has loads of them... along with some sketchy single seaters that are more like a couple of slippery planks zip-tied to a pole that you cling to for dear life if the chair gets a bit of an angle on.
The ultimate in camaraderie is still riding some janky rutted steep-ass T-Bar and requiring mad teamwork to get to the top in one piece. The one out of Cedar Bowl in Fernie had some days like that.
Although possibly this is topped by riding a rope tow when it has come off the pullies and 3 of you have to man-train the damn thing so you have enough weight on the rope to stop it lifting you into the air.
