I miss double chairs

I know they were slow as fuck, but honestly... the double chair was such a key part of the intimate relationship you'd form with fellow skiers.

Quads and 6-packs get people up the mountain faster, but nothing touched the bond of the double chair.

Right?

But yah doubles are great. There is still one that I occasionally ride and its ver nice. Riding a six pack with one other dude blows chunks, no camaraderie.

come to upstate NY. our mountains are filled with them. nothing like an 8 minute ride up on a rickety double to ski 500 feet of vertical!

My hill still has 1 double chair, things slow af but is still one of my favourite lifts, just because of this reason.

If it has a double chair, it's probably a friendly local hill. Gotta love that. Most places in the PNW still have them.

They still thrive here in Pennsy! Nothing beats catching the last chair (the whole ten minutes of it) in and staring up at the night sky to finish off a day.

We have a double at my home mountain and it takes us maybe 600 meters up but takes like 14 minutes

At my home mountain (perisher) we still have a hell old double chair, thing is sketchy as fuck staff have to stabilise it as it comes past and the bar is a chain you put into some hole thingy, and next to it is a 3 seater and if i had the choice i'd take the double over the triple just because it's funner to load and unload on and sort of riding a part of perisher history

Dude. My wife and I talk about this all the time. Of course, it is great to get more runs, especially when it's good and you're stoked. But it definitely detracts from the social value of the activity.

The long, slow double chair adds to the experience. I remember the best part of Bogus Basin, where I grew up, was accessed by a double chair with a 13-minute ride. And for about a third of the ride, you were like 100 feet in the air. The lift ride was as exhilarating as the ski down.

Even a double with a stranger can be tight, once had a random produce a blunt on a double. Always a good time

in the alps plenty of smaller ski areas still have them, in la foux d'allos in france you even have a 2 person bucket which is very awkward

but yeah, i love double seaters, they're awesome!

They still make them. At Crystal a few years ago they made a high speed double and I think they're putting a similar chair in to replace chair 6

There was a day, a long time ago, when the double was first invented that it was revolutionary. Imagine being able to sit on a lift with your buddy for the first time...

Whitewater has the scary type double chairs. It really adds to the uniqueness of the mountain. Also, I always try to go up with someone to talk and get the stoke flowing. Im just really pissed off at people who refuse to go up with someone.

You should go to Sutton to get your double chair fix. Like 75% of their chairs are slow doubles. Plus they have the very old kind with the pole in the middle(like those we see in the Japan edits).

we have a double chair at sundown mtn. in iowa, but they never seem to use it anymore because there is a triple chair right next to it. but i would agree that double chairs were/are a vital piece of ski culture.

I agree. I love a nice double chair. Just went to west the other day, their double chair is pretty sketchy but it gave me a good chance to catch up with some friends.

There's a few dubchairs here in WA. Three at Stevens, and 3? (idk) at Mission Ridge..Jamie can help you out with Snoqualmie, I don't know that mountain haha.

Come to Smugglers Notch! I see Malcolm shredding there sometimes and they have only have nice old double chairs. Parks pretty sweet this season too

I got a sketchy double lift at my home resort. Whenever I'm with someone new they always tell me how old and worn down it looks and i find it funny that everyone is freaked out there fist couple chair rides

Keeping it classy on the Red Ball express, one of the last standing great local mountains in this nation. Nothing better then riding the 10 min red ball, only to find endless tracks of ungrommed and untouched powder everywhere. Not to mention the glade run they let me cut over the summer, truley is a mountain for the people, made by the people... for the people. On a good day the view of Flatton is blocked!
