My bindings were mounted completely wrong

Long story short I asked the guys at the shop I go to for my park skis to be mounted dead center. I didn't look them over like I should have because it was the middle of the season and I just wanted to get out and ski. Today I brought them inside to put a sticker on and I realized they were a good 2 inches off center so that was messed up. And I realized they're backward. Yeah, my bindings are on backward. What should be my nose is actually my tail. It's about a cm wider at what is my current nose and i always thought the tail should be a little wider. I might be wrong about that but I'm wondering if they can be remounted. I've skied my whole life and never heard of remounting bindings but a guy I ski with said they can do that. I would think that would be bad for the ski but I don't know. Could I have that done? I bought 2013 k2 empress's and I got the last ski in my size at the shop and I can't find them anywhere else on the internet so buying new skis isn't really an option...am I fucked or can I do something about this?

A shop will mount a ski usually up to 3 times. After that the ski loses a lot of stability and what not. But take the ski back to them. Tell them that they screwed up your mount and they should remount them for free.

So getting them remounted one time wouldn't do much harm to them?

I don't think you're skis are mounted backwards...Your noses are supposed to be wider than your tails. And you should be able to remount them if you want to.

They could not harm them at all. My skis are mounted 3-4 times. Nothing is harmed. When you go to the shop tell them they suck, and that they need to learn what the hell they are doing. Not in those words but don't be all happy faced at them either. If they cant mount skis properly then they should not ve allowed to work at a shop.

Im not d enough to work at my local shop, but I have mounted many skis before. Its not hard, espically when you have a jig. That shop must suck really bad.

The tip on those skis is 113 mm, the tail is 104 mm. So they're not mounted backwards. As said above, you can have them remounted at center.

Ski tips are meant to be wider than the tails.

You said that you ski the K2 Empress

The dimensions on that ski are

113-85-104

This means that the tip has a width of 113mm and the tail is 104mm.

The line anthem is a

119-93-119

This ski has the same tip and tail dimension.

How new are you to skiing ? Do you plan on riding a lot of park ? More all mountain ?
If all mountain or beginner at park,  if your bindings are like 2-4cm back from dead center, you should leave them as is. It will be easier to ski all around the mountain (better in the powder/carving) and you will be closer to the center of the sidecut.

Measure the ski and put a mark directly in the middle. Engage your boot and see where the arrow in the middle of your boot points. If it points at the line they are centered. If it points 2cm behind the line they are mounted at -2cm.

You are probably just confused because the heel piece is considerably larger than the toe and it skews your perception on the mounting point

If you don't know the difference between the tip and the tail (which you don't based on what you've said) you probably aren't qualified to claim they aren't mounted right. You might want to go back to the shop and politely ask for some info and advice.

I've been skiing since I was 5 haha I started riding park 3 years ago and that's all I really do now. I ride in our advanced park. the guys I ski with told me it would be easier landing and riding switch if they were mounted dead center so that's what I was goin for ha

If you said center, that can be interpreted as true center (same tip and tail length) or core center (middle of the side cut). Yours aren't symmetrical, so center cod be interpreted as either. Depending on the tech, it is really likely they interpreted center as core center, which would probably be about 4cm back from true center.

Sounds like the tech should have double checked with you, but you also gave very vague directions

Also his is why you should measure and mark your skis before you mount them. Don't leave anything up to the tech's interpretation

I am pretty sure there is a difference between true center vs center mounted. I think they are only the same for 100% symmetrical skis.

I always specify I want the skis mounted true center with equal tip and tail length to avoid any confusion.
Point being I don't think the shop made any mistakes and you just didn't know what you were talking about.

No I think this is still wrong. If you say dead center, then they will mount the skis at the "center' of the skis, aka where the factory suggest the mount should be. And when you say you want ex -1,-2 back from center they still use that "factory center" as the starting point.

Only true center specifies using the symmetrical center of the ski.

I think... could easily be wrong.

Shit...I didn't realize there was that much involved haha I never really payed much attention to how they're set up. I'm more concerned with riding and stuff. I just said what my more experienced friend told me to say so yeah...where should they be mounted then? They're about 2 inches back from where it looks like the factory would have centered them.

Gonna go out on a limb here and say you don't ski switch THAT much. If you did you'd be at the olympics for chicks. You won't notice 2cms of extra nose, and they will ski better everywhere outside of the park.

On a 113-85-104 ski, you probably don't want them true centre anyways...

Just leave them be.

this

the difference you would notice would be negligible. not worth the extra set of holes in your skis. put too many holes in the core and it starts to look like a perforated piece of paper and becomes much more prone to snapping. 2 mounts would really probably be fine but i'd say it's not worth your trouble.

I don't ride switch thattt much but I land switch off rails and boxes and sometimes I just fuck around and go down switch when I'm bored so idk I definitely wanna get better at it tho. You're probably right. I should probably just leave them as they are.

Leave them how they are. I would rather have the bindings two CMs back rather than an extra set of holes in my skis, especially what it sounds like your ability level is. Two CMs back from center is a good spot to have your bindings at, you can still ski switch perfectly well.

I mean, you can re-drill and mount again so they're the right way. I would bring them to a different shop lol once you re mount more than once it gets sketchy and you can jack up your cores. As for them being off center, them being true center doesn't truly affect your ability (as far I can can feel. I've skied both true center and off center). The only thing you'll feel a real difference in is swing wait for spins.

I have line anthems from 2009 and I think there on their 4th remount maybe more at this point and they are holding strong , long story short youll be fine. Also thats pretty fucked up that your shop would do that! But lets hope they make up with some free remounts. Unfortunately also not the first and im sure not the last time we will hear of a botched mounting

Did you get them mounted at center or true center? there's a difference if the ski isn't symmetrical.

You do realize that 2 inches and 2 centimeters are not the same thing, right? 2 inches is 5 centimeters.

Now if the shop did mount them 5 cm off where they should be then definitely go talk to them about it.

And I find it hard to believe that you ride a ton of park yet you thought that the tail is wider than the tip of the ski...

about that whole losing stability and what not.
I mounted my JJ's about 6 times before i scraped them, before the last mounting they had 26 holes in them on each ski.
Just plug em up and kill it.

And mount your skis by yourself

Ns seems to be a lot about that for the past few weeks...and to op, if you said center, they probs mounted them at the factory center (ie where theres a line with "suggested center" or some shit) those are usually 1-2 cm back. If you want actual center gotta ask for dead center. And how far back from the dead center are they?? Cos if its only 1-2 cm then imo its not worth remounting them, unless you do mostly rails, you wont feel a massive difference

just bring them back and explain it, if its a legit shop they'll redrill them and seal the holes for free + if you're lucky they'll throw in something extra ...

i drill almost all the skis in the shop i work at and k2 parkskis definitely need double checking to make sure they're in the right direction, those things have such hectic designs and symmetric shape that a mistake is quick to happen ...

personally i've only fucked up one pair of skis and those were my own, it was the first time working with a jig and i had it on backwards so i drilled them backwards, nothing too bad though, filled the holes up and drillled them correctly and now they're still going strong after 3 years.

so don't go in there like a screaming banshee, mistakes are human ;)

don't bother getting mad at the shop... it's extremely easy misinterpret where you want them mounted unless you are very specific. best way to do it is measure yourself, take a sharpie and draw a line where you want the bindings mounted. no room for misunderstandings there

yes 2 inches is not the same as 2 cm. but the the 5cm is split between the tip and tail. so there's 2.5 extra cm on the tips and 2.5 cm less on the tails. he's not wrong.

Hey lady,
Just take them back ASAP. The shop should understand. Tell them why you want them mounted center and they should fix it. (Also, my bindings have pulled out 3 times. I figure the skis are probably pretty mushy, but they're working just fine. Obviously NOT dead center anymore.) Go back and tell them, but make sure you try to speak to the same person you gave them over too.

No. Every shop I have been to mount "dead center" in the center. If they still mount then at the recomended "center" then thwy suck.
